zach matthews  cool guy, cool facts Β© banff, ab πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ πŸŒ²πŸŒŠπŸ”

It was fun while it lasted πŸ‘‹πŸΌπŸ‚ β€’ Until about 1500, autumn (or fall) was just called β€œharvest.” The full moon closest to the autumn equinox is known as a harvest moon.Β Before cities electrified, the bright night of the harvest moon was essential for farmers harvesting their late-year crops 🌽

Epic time floating over Abraham Lake and the Rocky Mountains last week with @rockiesheli ! πŸšπŸ™ŒπŸΌ β€’ There is a nut holding the main rotor to the shaft of the helicopter, called the 'Jesus nut'. This nut was named as such when a pilot said, "Oh Jesus, if that nut comes off..." πŸ™πŸΌ

Look closely, you can see members of the Night's Watch on top βš”οΈ πŸ‰β€’ The Antarctic ice sheet is actually a glacier and has existed for at least 40 million years. If it were to melt in its entirety, sea levels would rise 210 feet worldwide! πŸ˜±β„οΈ

I really hope next year we can do better to protect and respect the wildlife we have here in the Bow Valley - RIP #148 ❀️ (FYI this isn't a photo of her. I was unable to see her before she was relocated earlier this year) β€’ 🐻 Bears care deeply about family members. They will risk their lives and even fight to the death in order to save a cub or sibling from danger - Not so different from you and I eh......πŸ€”

Cool, long, dark nights are coming - and so are the light shows 🌌 β€’ We are accustomed to referring to things that are πŸ”΄ as hot and those that are πŸ”΅ as cool. This is not entirely unreasonable, since a red, glowing fireplace poker is hot and ice, especially in glaciers and polar regions, can have a bluish cast. But we say that only because our everyday experience is limited. In fact, heated objects change color as their temperature changes, and red represents the lowest temperature at which a heated object can glow in visible light. As it gets hotter, the color changes to white and ultimately to blue. So the red stars you see in the sky are the β€œcoolest” (least hot), and the blue stars are the hottest! ⭐️

"Where is home?" - is a hard question to answer. I have many homes; Places 🏑 and People ❀️ β€’ Apples are more effective at waking you up in the morning than coffee. But do I care? Naaaaaah β˜•οΈ

Sweater weather is coming 😬 β€’ The tea-bag was an accidental invention. This occurred in 1908 when tea merchant Thomas Sullivan distributed his tea samples in small, silken bags. His customers, not understanding that these were samples, dunked them in hot water and suddenly Sullivan was swamped with orders for his "tea-bags"! πŸ˜‚ - πŸ“Έ: @paige.murph

Perfect β˜„οΈ for one of those touristy "pinch the sun" photos πŸ˜›β€’ When John Walker used a stick to stir a pot containing antimony sulfide, potassium chlorate & sulfur, some of the mixture stuck to the end of the stick. When he tried to scrape the lump, it easily caught fire (due to friction) & this led to the birth of friction matches πŸ”₯

I wouldn't mind some snow capped mountains right about now 😬 β€’ Inuit people created the first sunglasses! The goggles originally made from bone or ivory and later wood, fit snugly across the face and had long slits carved out for the eyes reducing the amount of glare, thus protecting their eyes from snow blindness πŸ‘€

You never get to hear what happens before, during, and after a photo is taken. Photos can portray a sense of peace and serenity in a moment - when in fact: the wind was howling, tourists were blabbering, I was yelling at @paige.murph to get closer to the edge, she was yelling back 😬 but in the end, we look at the photos and feel what the picture was supposed to represent: a moment of "ahhh" in a world full of "ughhh" β€’ 🐳 A blue whale's heart is the size of a Volkswagen Beetle 😲

Toaster Strudels taste so much better when they are for a 4 am wake up call to see this! πŸŒ„ β€’ "Bluetooth" technology was named after a 10th century king, King Harald Bluetooth. He united Denmark and Norway βš”οΈ just like the wireless technology company united computers and cell phones! πŸ“žπŸ’»

Does anybody else get pissed off when people don't use blinkers when driving?! πŸš—πŸ˜€ β€’ Once bears breed, they go their separate ways. Male bears do not help the mother bear raise the cubs. Depending on the breed, intercourse may last a few minutes (giant panda) or half an hour (polar bear) - which bear are you? 😏
