"I am Zach Washington-Young (@zach_wy) and in September 2012, I sustained a Burst Fracture to my L1, which severed the majority of my spinal cord. I was motor complete for 12 months. I found an incredible recovery center #PrimePhysio in Cambridge, UK. I remained in the wheelchair for the next 3 years. I have hit milestone after milestone with my walking and trained to walk all 26.2 miles of the London Marathon: a huge breakthrough in the worldwide history of medical science and #spinalcordinjuryrecovery.
____________
I am an international level swimmer in the top tier of the World S6 times and have recently started to play football again. I am an Ambassador for Spinal Recovery and represent the Rooprai Spinal Trust (@rstrust). I now aspire to support others to go down the same path of recovery that I have done. I am also just another human being, and with the right guidance many more people with spinal cord injuries can follow in my footsteps!" #yoocandoanything #yoocan #spinalcordinjury #sci #betterneverstops #scirecovery #noregrets #love #smile #happy #nevergiveup #adaptiveathlete #instagood #photooftheday #instamood #swimmer #swim

"Since I was 2 weeks old I (@lymekhaleesi) started a life of mysterious illnesses, and was told for 26 years my illnesses and hospitalizations were of a psychiatric cause. Despite 5 back surgeries, random spinal fluid leaks, debilitating pain, and eventually neurological and cognitive impairments; time and time again I was told, “this was all in my head.” Finally in August 2017 I received my diagnoses of Chronic Lyme Disease Complex and various co-infections that came along for the ride. I lost all my independence, ability to speak, was having seizures every 3 minutes, and debilitating pain kept me in bed for months.
_______________
After almost losing my life at the age of 27, the love of my life (@Lymedrogo) of ten years and I decided we needed to sell everything we could, and fundraise to afford treatment elsewhere. Chronic illness can take a toll on one’s mind, body, and spirit. However, I refuse to allow my disabilities define me — as we ALL have more ABILITIES than disabilities!" "I’m (@YooooooItsPeach) 37 years of age, single & disabled. I was born & raised in Chicago with a bone condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, otherwise referred to as Brittle Bones disorder. Simply put, it’s a disease that effects the collagen in the bones making it easy to result in a fracture or break, often times with little to no trauma at all. Regardless, I’ve lived a rather normal life, whatever “normal” means in this generation. I’ve gone to college, graduated with 2 degrees; one a B.A. in Management & the other a Certificate in Paralegal Studies. I had finally reached my dream of obtaining a career in the legal field.
_______________
The disorder I have comes with many prerequisites, one being empathy, which I believe to be the reason I was able to care for & advocate for my daughter in such intimate & nurturing ways. I’m an intensivist so I’ve been told. I operate on such an intense level, I give my all until I’m all tapped out. The night before I gave birth via cesarean, I wasn’t nervous. Excited yes... But not nervous. I saw it as just another surgery, only this time it would result in the presence of a baby. My giving birth was nothing short of uncommon." "My name is Olga Popova (@olga_popova29) and I'm from Russia. I am 33 years old. I was born in an ancient Russian city called Nizhny Novgorod. I have a disability called Osteogenesis Imperfecta. At university I studied journalism. Now I write essays and poetry when I'm in the mood. For many years I have been working as a coordinator of the social program "Time Bank." My hobby is knitting and I love to make knitted toys. Also I make knitted dolls in the national costumes of the people from all over the world. Creativity makes me happy. I will be glad to get acquainted with the participants of this community from different places of Earth. "My name is Anthony (@antbryan). At the age of 6 years old I was diagnosed with a major brain tumor, which had to be operated on. I suffered a stroke during the operation, which resulted in me losing use of my left side and I had to relearn how walk and do everything with one hand.

Sports have always been a big part of my life. I have been doing athletics for a number of years now and I train everyday on the running track and in the gym. Even with my disability I have found ways to adapt and can now run at great speeds! I can even overtake able bodied athletes! This Year I have been selected to represent team England in the CPISRA World Games in the T37 800m & 1500m held in Barcelona! I want so show that no matter what you have been through, you can still achieve anything if you just put your mind to it! Just small steps at a time and you will get there! #yoocandoanything #yoocan #stroke #sports #nevergiveup #strength #confidence #strong #determined #disability #fitness #adaptiveathlete #cpworldgames #run #runner #athlete #motivation #instarunners #inspirational #cplife #cp #competition #nike #fit #bodybuilding #crossfit #adidasrunners #runnersworld #paraathlete #proudparalympian

"Hi, my name is Sophia (@sophia_malthus) and I am 20 from New Zealand. In 2016 I fell off a racehorse at work and broke my neck, leaving me tetraplegic. I still love going to the races to watch the horses and see all of my friends. I think the horses remember me but they know something is different now, and their eyes show empathy. I don’t regret my accident because I loved my job and I still love horse racing! Regret will only hold me back from moving on with my new life." #yoocandoanything #yoocan #tetraplegic #horseracing #horseraces #horses #noregrets #love #smile #happy #nevergiveup #spinalcordinjury #sci #instagood #photooftheday #instamood

"We (@kate_andkids) found out in the twelfth week of my pregnancy that our baby was likely going to be born with Down Syndrome. We did not pursue invasive testing due to the risk of miscarriage, we loved that baby so very much already! We were scared, and the internet was cruel. After speaking to a geneticist who didn't have many positive things to say I left and knew then that our babies name would be Hope: what the world needs. Hope is what our family needs & what I need! ⠀
_______________
Our beautiful little girl with a beautiful extra chromosome came into our lives on Valentine's Day and she has blessed our family more than I could ever explain. Hope is love, joy, and all things good in this world. She is strong and determined and nothing will keep her from succeeding in life. Since Hope's birth, she has taught our whole family what true love really means - no one gets more kisses and hugs than this sweetheart! We most definitely have learned that difference is beautiful, we are all more alike than different! There is Nothing Down about Down Syndrome." #yoocandoanything #yoocan #hope #baby #downsyndrome #downsyndromeawareness #family #love #speicalneedsmom #smile #happy #joy #strong #determined #beautiful #blessed #nevergiveup #theluckyfew #nothingdownaboutit #instagood #photooftheday #t21 #bornthisway #specialneeds #downsyndromerocks #downrightperfect #upsyndrome #downrightperfect #inspiration #differentiscool

"During birth, I (@cerebralpalsyshredder) suffered a severe bleed in my cerebellum leading to my diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. Doctors told my parents that I would never be able to walk or run like other kids. Defying the doctors, my parents refused to accept that I "would not walk". My dad, who was a big skier, along with my mom, opted to strap skis to my feet. I became hooked on snow sports.

Around the age of 7, I convinced my parents to let me begin snowboarding. Snowboarding has been my favorite sport for 20 years now! Snowboarding has taken me around the world, from California to Colorado, Canada to the glaciers of New Zealand and most recently to the US Snowboard and Freeski Nationals 2018. This past year I have competed to promote Cerebral Palsy awareness by snowboarding and winning 5 gold medals overall. I was honored to compete at the National level while promoting Cerebral Palsy awareness! "I (@maddieconway9494) was at the grocery store recently, and someone asked “What happened to you?” My response: “Oh, um… I was born early.” The person continued: “Oh I see, so that’s why you use a chair… you’re still as beautiful as ever though. God Bless.” I know the person meant well, but when people make comments like this, I wish they understood that mobility devices do not change someone’s appearance. It can sometimes seem as though the only thing people want to know about me is why I use a power wheelchair. Curiosity is natural, and my chair can be something to notice. But it is just the way I’m used to living. I do not wish to deny my disability, but I do wish for society as a whole to see me, and not just my power chair. There is so much more to a person than the way they navigate their surroundings. I know positive changes in perceptions and attitudes can begin to take place with even the smallest interactions." #yoocandoanything #yoocan #god #bless #wheelchair #wheelchairlife #iamadaptive #nevergiveup #smile #happy #life #disability #accessibility #cerebralpalsy #cerebralpalsyawareness #cp #liveyourbestlife #instainspo #faith #motivation #hope #thankyou #praise #selflove #godisgreat #instagood #instamood #DisabledDoesntMeanUnable #health #cerebralpalsystrong
