Scene: Sustainability Village at JCSU for our Toyota Green Garden Day.

First we planted some seedlings of beets, broccoli, kale, and arugala.
Next we cleared out an area for new beds to be built.
And @trap_garden supported in laying out and assembling for a new hydroponic system.
And last but not least another group wrapped 2,000 tree seedlings for Charlotte Trees project. Their goal: 50% tree coverage by 2050!
Thank you for everyone who came out yesterday!!! The first supermarket supposedly appeared on the American landscape in 1946. That is not very long ago. Until then, where was all the food? Dear folks, the food was in homes, gardens, local fields, and forests. It was near kitchens, near tables, near bedsides. It was in the pantry, the cellar, the backyard.

In this particular bowl, for the blended portion includes all organic ingredients :
Frozen wild blueberries
Frozen mango
Avocado
Spirulina
Raw honey
Chia seeds
Coconut oil
Coconut water

Blend all the above in desired texture. Some ppl like smoother while others may like chuckier. If you like the latter, pulse in a blender a few times.

Topped off my bowl:
Shredded coconut
Goji berries
Gluten free oats
Hemp seeds
Chia seeds
Sunflower butter

Spirulina is an algae that some might refer to as pond scum. Sounds gross but it is accurate. It contains as much protein as an egg, good amounts of calcium, niacin, potassium, magnesium, B vitamins and iron. It also contains gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which is anti-inflammatory especially when taken with a source of Omega 3 which is why I add the chia seeds.

Supporting your health + wellness is your primary priority.
If you are not well, then you cannot take care of the things that matter to you.

Try oil pulling twice a week.
This cleansing Ayurvedic process is simply done by swishing a tablespoon of oil (typically coconut oil, olive or sesame oil) in your mouth for 5-20 minutes. It should be done on an empty stomach so first thing in the am is ideal. Avoid swallowing any of it as it is the equivalent of swallowing bacteria embryos. Post swishing you then dispose of it from your mouth, brush your teeth, and drink 2 cups of water after.
The process reduces bacterial growth, strengthens your teeth, and reduces inflammation in your gums. Some other potential benefits include teeth whitening, improving digestion and skin, supporting liver and kidney function.

Carry healthier snack with you especially when traveling.
Avoid temptation and limitations by having options to nibble on. That way you aren't tempted to buy just because you're hungry.

Purchase your next clothing item from a thrift shop.
Not only is it affordable, you contribute to keeping recycled clothing out of landfills. .

Carnival squash in all sizes. It's Squash and Carnival season! Shout out to my caribbean folks heading to carnival in Trinidad.

They are a good source of Protein, Vitamin A, Thiamin, Niacin, Phosphorus and Copper, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Magnesium, Potassium and Manganese.

Carnival squash can be blended into soup or stew, roasted, baked, or steamed. I even blend squash in my smoothies. I prefer roasting as it brings out is sweetness.

Sometimes saying no is your setup to win.
For a long time, no was not my go to response. Over the years, I've learned that having no in my arsenal is the gateway to protecting my spirit and sanity.

Commit to working out three times this week.
If you're like me, there are times where I need diversification in my workouts. Not everything requires being in the gym. There are so many free videos on YouTube, you can dance for an hour, work with a trainer, etc. You've options which give way for a few excuses.
Once you start working out, you are in the beginning stages of creating a new habit.

Add probiotics to your intake routine.
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria in your digestive system that keep them functioning properly. Your gut is connected to so many areas of your well being, from head to toe.
Start with incorporating probiotic foods into your diet. Fermented foods are a source of probiotics.
Some examples are: Kefir, yogurt, kombucha tea, kimchi, tempeh, sauerkraut, pickles, miso, spirulina/chlorella.
Research probiotic supplements as an alternative to food.

Invest in reusable bags for shopping.
There is too much plastic in the world. So be one less contributor by bringing your own bags when you shop. I keep a foldable reusbale bag with me for any impromptu or planned shopping.

Smoothie and acai bowls have been all the rage the last 4 years. And me and mister have been making these kinds of bowls way before the fad, especially on hot summer days.
