The foot is packed with joints - 33 of them in each foot. That means the foot is supposed to move…..A LOT. Its a unique structure that acts as both a mobile unit to accommodate to the ground below you and also a stable platform tensioned by muscles to create a lever to push off from

Traditional footwear is far too rigid. Unless you can twist, bend and collapse a shoe, its going to limit motion of your foot. Limiting motion over time takes the foot from being a mobile articulating structure to being  rigid, stiff and weak structure

MORTONS NEUROMA

Morton’s neuroma involves numbness and pain produced in the space between the 3rd and 4th metatarsal heads, where one of the nerves of the foot becomes compressed. The constant compression on the nerve causes inflammation and irritation. Pain is typically felt on the ball of the foot and can sometimes radiate into the toes

As the nerve becomes inflamed and enlarged, it is further irritated because of the increased pressure between the bones of the foot
👣
The main cause of this condition is shoes that are too tight and spending very little time barefoot. The foot should be allowed to splay naturally, instead of being tightly bound by shoes all day long
👣
The best corse of treatment is catching it early and releasing the bottom of the foot and using toe spreaders to create extra space between the bones of the foot. Allowing the condition to progress, may lead to fibrous tissues forming around the inflamed nerve which may require surgery to remove

Nemesis of the human foot: the flip flop

As bad as an elevated heel in shoes might be, one of the poorest types of footwear for the human foot is the flip flop. They create big problems with how the foot functions and should be avoided

When your big toe extends with walking it activates a system of fascial cables that turns your foot into a rigid lever to push off on. Flip flops remove that important mechanism by forcing you to clench your toes to stop them from falling off
