2017 brought me across the country to Washington DC where my feet walked along the pavement with millions of others to voice our demand for equality, freedom, and political responsibility, and to resist against bigotry, racism, and a corrupt administration that somehow highjacked the highest office in the (US) land. It took us further east to New York for my first visit to the big Apple, and then on to Mexico where we witnessed the forever love commitment between our bestest friends. And it was there that our newest seedling was formed.
There have been some monumental setbacks this year, some so great many of us are left wondering how we will recover. But we will. And just as the valleys are low the majestic mountains are epically high, and this year has also shed light on the goodness in humanity, the fierce ability to shine brighter in the face of darkness, and to love harder and stronger and more intensely than hate. It has brought us to our knees, but has also given us reason to get back up and stand taller and prouder and more unbreakable than ever before.
2017 gave our family the conception, growth, and empowering free birth of our second son, our Phoenix bird. To start the year with just three people in our little family and to end it with four is fascinating and magical, and i am infinitely grateful.
I’ll be beginning the new year by putting the phone down to let my eyes truly see, my ears hear, and my heart feel the pulse of real life. I need to feel again what it’s like to experience this life without the distraction of social media, virtual likes, serotonin induced comments, and subconscious comparisons of highlight reels. Today my son said to me, “no phone, mommy!”. It stung. So for him (and me!) I’ll be putting it down so i can look up for awhile, and in the process, hopefully gain a new perspective and a healthier way of connecting and engaging. Happy new year everyone! May 2018 bring you truth, passion, exploration, and an everlasting commitment to value and love yourself. See you on the other side of my social media detox!
