When things get heavy
And I’m feeling unsteady
I drain the brain
‘Til the mind becomes empty
Flip it upside down
Touch my crown to the ground
Bring it back now I’m ready -@mcyogi

“Lately I’ve been obsessed with applying a blend of coconut oil and essential oils to my feet. Not only have I been able to fend off the flu - even when my partner had it! - but I was surprised at how body-soft my feet have become. “ - @amyippyoga is sharing her self-care hack with @dailyharvest today. Practicing love, just like practicing yoga, is a conscious decision that a person is able to make every single day. It can happen when you’re waiting in line at the coffee shop and decide to allow an impatient person to cut in front of you. Or when you find yourself watching your three year old’s favorite movie again for the 14th time.
.
In the same way that you commit yourself to the mat, commit to practicing love this week. What does that look like for you? Show us by sharing your photos with #yogaglo! We will feature some of our favorites in our Instagram story at the end of the week.

YogaGlo teacher @stephaniesnyderyoga is hosting this week’s Ask Me Anything in the Facebook Group Glo Together! To kick things off, here are three things you might not know about Stephanie:

1. Often the path to yoga is born from a struggle. Stephanie’s journey includes a depression and anxiety disorder, rehab, getting clean and sober, and helping other addicts.
2. Although Stephanie surrounds herself with loving students throughout the day, she actually considers herself an intense introvert.
3. She is married to punk rock icon @larsfrederiksen.

Join the group now and begin leaving questions for her!

Guru literally means “dispeller of darkness” or “the one who brings light”. Their purpose isn’t to teach you something you already know, but rather they turn on the light to show what was already there.

Employee Spotlight: Maya Kraidman.
.
Meet our Marketing Coordinator, Maya! A jack of all trades, Maya provides marketing support to our amazing community of instructors.

Maya comes from a family of yogis, so it’s no surprise that when something went wrong two years ago, her family turned to yoga and meditation. After learning that her mom had been diagnosed with breast cancer, Maya moved home to Las Vegas from Washington DC, where she had been living and working. Throughout the course of her mom’s treatment, she and her mom both practiced yoga together nearly every day. Today, Maya's mom is a certified yoga instructor and is more committed to her practice than ever.
.
“It’s impossible to explain the power that yoga has to get you through a health crisis or emotionally difficult time. But once you try it and stick to the practice, the physical and emotional benefits become apparent. It’s hard to imagine a life without a yoga practice in it."
.
Maya took over our Instagram today with a few of her favorite things from around the office. Take a peek!

The Sanskrit word mudra literally means “seal”, as in “to seal something in.” The idea is that we already have the energy and vitality we need, but we give it away by allowing it to “leak” out of our system. Similar to the concept of “bandha” or “energetic lock”, a seal is meant to secure a certain facet of energy. Most mudras take the form of hand gestures, although there are also full-body mudras.
.
The Karana mudra is a banishing gesture and is held to dismiss obstacles that come your way and break out-of-date patterns. To clear out the negative and make room for the new, hold this while repeating a mantra that begins with “I let go of...”

Yoga is built on patterns. Creating a habitual behavior is a wonderful way to be more efficient with your time and provide structure to your actions; for example, it’s likely that you take the quickest route to work every morning, or you may find that practicing yoga at the same time every day ensures that it happens.
.
But what happens when you break away from the norm?
.
Try stepping away from the safe, the convenient, the known, and open yourself to new possibilities. By breaking a pattern, you make space for creativity and newness. You may even find that the patterns you’ve created were born from stories you’ve told yourself about who you are and what your limitations are. What habits have you created that perhaps are holding you back from meeting your potential? What would happen if you tried steering off course just once?
