An amazing evening celebrating a giant of a man who was like another father to my family. Daniel 'Kgomo' Morolong. Known to us by his nickname “Daddy”. He captured East London and the Eastern Cape through its most precious fabric, it’s people. From Mdantsane, to Fuller’s Bay, to Oxford Street and Duncan Village, he was there to frame our best and worst moments. To have him honoured today, out of the Eastern Cape in a room full of people from all walks of life, all races and so many countries, is as beautiful as it is sad for me. Our province needs to do more to celebrate our heroes. Especially those who were happy to lay the canvas for others to shine. And introduce foreign volitions like photography to future black generations. RIP “Daddy Morolong”. Today your work speaks louder than it did when you were with us, but it speaks nonetheless.
