Happy #WorldOrcaDay! Did you know they can be found in every ocean in the world? The southern resident killer whales swim in the Salish Sea off the coast of British Columbia. After the recent death of a 23-year-old, there are only 75 left. We're working to help this population recover. One way you can help is by clicking the link in our bio where you can email the government asking for the ban of oil and gas activities in marine protected areas. #OilFreeMPA 🌊🇨🇦

Barren-ground caribou are now listed as a species at risk in the Northwest Territories. That means that the government has two years to put together a management plan that will help them recover. Climate change and habitat loss and fragmentation are the biggest threats to this iconic species in Canada. We work to protect their calving areas and fund research through our Arctic Species Conservation Fund. Later this summer we'll be releasing a four-part series on the barren-ground caribou so be sure to look out for that on IGTV. ❄️

Although it’s illegal to kill a jaguar, some populations are declining because they're losing their range to development. In Belize where the government recognizes they’re worth more alive than dead, they’re thriving. The Cockscomb Basin is also a jaguar preserve that spans 200 square miles. Amazing things happen when you protect spaces. 🐆

Meet Canada's newest marine protected area! Banc-des-Américains is 1,000 km² and home to many species at risk. Found off the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, it's an important area for forage fish, sea birds and the endangered blue whale. 🐋 The proposed regulations of the MPA will restrict commercial and recreational fishing to one zone of the MPA, and fishing for certain forage species will not be allowed anywhere in the MPA. Forage fish are a critical part of the food chain, so this is a win for wildlife in the region. This also helps Quebec get one step closer to achieving their goal of protecting 10% of the St. Lawrence. 👏

The Belize Barrier Reef is officially off the @UNESCO danger list! 🙌 As recent as October 2016, seismic testing for oil was permitted just 10 km from the site. Pressure from WWF and other groups encouraged the government to take meaningful steps to protect a region that provides 11 million people with food, water and jobs. #SaveOurHeritage 🌊
