2018, WHAT'S POPPIN' LADIEZ?! is setting some new intentions!
While creating annual event spaces has been WPL?!'s niche, we are looking to expand by creating year long programming for young womxn/girls* of color. WPL?! seeks to carve out a safe space by curating a roster of dope womxn (from the Street Styles dance community and beyond) to help mentor these young femmes of color to find their voice and unapologetically take up space. Young femmes of color will gain choreographic and freestyling tools that will engage their own fierce energy!
We are looking for support to make this programming low cost, if not free, to mitigate financial barriers for these brown girls. Street Styles/Club Styles dance forms are historically exploited from those of the (LGBTQIA) African + Latinx diaspora and it is important to make sure these dance forms are available to the communities that it's from. .
Here are two ways you can proactively help: .
🌟1. Pledge to our patreon! (link in bio) Every little bit counts and if you do pledge we will give you some cute treats (BTS pictures and footage, all access WPL?! event passes, and more) .
✨ Do you know a young brown or black femme? Do you know a family of color that wants their kiddo(s) to dance in a safe space? Send them our way! Pls email Moonyeka@outlook.com for more info! .
🌟TAG AND SHARE! .
If you choose to be a patron for WHAT'S POPPIN' LADIEZ?! you will be supporting WPL?!'s mission to give brown girls the freedom to explore, and reclaim unapologetically, their voice, bodies, and movement. You will be helping mitigate the financial barriers of finding space, student tuition, teaching artistry fees, travel fees (to other amazing womxn led events such as @ladiesofhiphop Ladies of Hip Hop) and more!
