La Bohรจme, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour // Today is the last day to see this year's Handa Opera on the Harbour, La Bohรจme ๐ŸŽญ @theabeorigin and I attended a couple of weeks ago and truly enjoyed the show! Not only is it set against the iconic background of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, there were fireworks (both literally and on stage), amazing performances, an engaging story - and, as if that weren't enough, they managed to stage a snowstorm on Sydney Harbour! YAYOI Haymarket // Did you know that YAYOI is the largest Japanese teishoku restaurant chain, with over 500 outlets worldwide? I didn't know this, but having enjoyed quite a few meals at their Sydney outlets I can see why it's so popular! โ˜œ Miso pork loin katsu teishoku โ˜œ Close-up of the pork katsu. YAYOI always gets the katsu right - fried to golden perfection, it's never too heavy and manages to stay crispy, even in the miso sauce
โ˜œ Love the option to have your main in a teishoku (set meal) - comes with miso soup (we upgraded to the clam miso soup), rice (YAYOI's rice is top quality!) and side dishes. We also took the option to add a side of salmon sashimi

โ˜œ The sukiyaki comes with a runny egg to dip the wagyu for extra tastiness ๐Ÿ˜‹ โ˜œ We balanced our meal with umeshu (we tried the original, yuzu and green tea flavours - so refreshing and easy to drink!) and dessert. The matcha anmitsu and kinako warabi mochi, whilst delicious, weren't too sweet, which made us feel less guilty about being such piglets ๐Ÿ˜…

Acre Eatery // Having just spent a day and a half doing some hardcore (but long overdue ๐Ÿ˜…) cleaning, I'm pleased to say that this Easter Long Weekend has been productive for me. Luckily, it hasn't been all work - Saturday was the day for play, with an outing to Camperdown Commons. We enjoyed a delicious farm-to-table lunch at Acre Eatery, and then a post-lunch wander around the grounds (with cocktails from Spritz Bar in hand lol) to see how the adjoining Pocket City Farm is growing. Fujisaki // When you have a massive backlog but you want to post about your latest big meal because it was so epic... Fujisaki is the latest Lotus Dining Group venue to open at the Barangaroo precinct and, with a pedigree like that, I had high expectations. After the feast we had there on Friday, I am pleased to say my expectations were met! Shortstop Coffee & Doughnuts, Sydney // It's been sweltering in Sydney today and, to confess, I've spent most of the day napping (or did I just pass out from the heat?). Not the most productive of Sundays but at least I feel quite recharged and ready for the work week (ok, kinda ready). Kusuka Cafรฉ // Wednesday nights are date nights, and this date night I enjoyed another photogenically delicious meal at the Kusuka on Sussex - that's right, I returned within 4 days of the last visit ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ I got the Campfire Super Bowl with mi goreng (couldn't go past the fries! ๐ŸŸ) and an Iced Milo, and @theabeorigin got the Hangry Super Bowl (with half rice, half mi goreng) and the Kopi Milo / Swipe โ˜œ: This would have been the first photo in this post, if not for tonight's dinner: brunch last Saturday with @_sunnyl and my first visit to the new Kusuka venue - such a pretty space! She had The Garden mi goreng and the ultra-photogenic Pink Lattรฉ, and I had The Hurricane mi goreng with the Kopi Milo / โ˜œโ˜œ: Throwback even further to my first Kusuka experience at the OG location and it was love at first bite. I had The West mi goreng (the mushrooms and sausage were especially ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ) and the Disco drink, and I can't remember what he ordered ๐Ÿ˜… All you need to know is the dish was delicious and his drink was an amazing marshmallow and cream laden confection lol / โ˜œโ˜œโ˜œ: During that first visit, we also shared the beef martabak with cheese and chilli, which combined a few of my favourite foods haha - just look at that lovely cheese! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Celebrated the Year of the Dog with an amazing dessert degustation at Lotus @ The Galeries ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿก๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿฅœ The event was a collaboration between Lotus and Blackstar Pastry, featuring Valrhona chocolate - what a winning combo! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ We started with a round of savoury dumplings to whet our appetite and then it was straight onto the sweet stuff (Swipe โ˜œ): The King's Fortune (a pineapple and burnt vanilla sorbet, topped with a delectable lotus crisp dipped in Valrhona Orelys - so yum!), the Dumpling of Abundance (steamed dumpling filled with Valrhona Opalys custard and pomelo sorbet - loved the presentation and the taste too), the Lotus Flower of Enlightenment (rice paper lotus flower encasing a Valrhona Manjari mousse - prettiest dessert!), and the Peanut of Prosperity (crisp Valrhona Caramelia shell, filled with peanut butter mousse and a red bean caramel centre - super rich but we both managed to finish it because it was so delicious!). Besides indulging our sweet teeth, we learned about the Valrhona chocolates featured in the degustation, thereby filling both our tummies and our heads lol. I was a happy lil camper after this meal ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ // After our extravagant pig-out, we tried to burn off the calories with a walk around Circular Quay to see this year's Lunar Lanterns. I especially liked the new larger-than-life zodiacs - the Dog, the Tiger and the Dragon. Valentine's Day | 14 February 2018
As with the previous year, the bae and I decided to eschew the V-Day set menus and the company of other couples in favour of a low-key meal at one of our foodie loves, Gou Sushi. On the outside, it may look like a run-of-the-mill sushi train, but a perusal of the menu reveals some definite gems, such as the delectable aburi salmon and scallop conveyor - not sure why it's called this, but it is melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness and the reason why we keep returning. Other highlights include the spicy tuna tartare on crispy rice and anything involving eel ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ / Swipe โ˜œ: For a sushi train, Gou has amazing variety and it's all made fresh with quality ingredients. We paired our meal with some tasty umeshu (choya for him, yuzu for me) and rounded things off with a strawberry mochi and the intriguing but surprisingly yummy cheese spring roll. Pipilotti Rist, Sip My Ocean โ€ข Hiroshi Fuji, Jurassic Plastic // A few weeks ago, we treated our senses to a kaleidoscope of colours, sounds, and tastes. Swipe โ˜œ: Our senses of sight and hearing were dazzled (and sometimes assaulted lol) by Pipilotti Rist's 'Sip My Ocean' exhibition at the MCA. The highlight of the exhibition was the much-grammed Pixel Forest, for obvious reasons - visually stunning and immersive, we ended up staying way too long in there basking in the glow of the ever-changing coloured crystals (representing exploded pixels in a television) / After the MCA, we trekked down to Sydney Town Hall for the 'Jurassic Plastic' installation. We were delighted to find a number of larger-than-human dinosaurs made from upcycled discarded plastic toys amongst some childhood favourites, such as Doraemon and Pikachu. There was also opportunity to use our sense of touch to create our own upcycled creations / Our remaining two senses of taste and smell were also put to use throughout the day: a healthy brunch of pokรฉ bowl and beef bowl, afternoon pick-me-up of housemade soda, and a laidback dinner of ramen for me and mapo tofu for him - colourful food for a colourful day ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŽจ

Australia Day | 26 January 2018
This year, I had an uncharacteristically full agenda for Australia Day. We started with a quintessentially Australian outdoor activity - a 3-hour 10km bushwalk (not a hike, cos #straya ) from the Spit to Manly Beach. We survived the journey (and the intense humidity) and were rewarded with a delicious lunch at Havana Beach Manly and, of course, @theabeorigin and I ordered frozen daiquiris (an addiction we picked up at El Floridita in Havana, Cuba) to go with our meal (FYI these daiquiris were HUGE) ๐Ÿน๐Ÿน After lunch, we continued our cool-down with a quick dip at the beach, another quintessentially Aussie activity ๐Ÿ– I concluded my Aussie Day festivities at a good mate's place (after a quickie arvo tea at Chef's Palette), where we didn't quite chuck a prawn on the barbie ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ - but the Mexican feast and KitKat degustation we did have were just as good, if you ask me ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ Hope you all enjoyed your Australia Day ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Swipe โ˜œ for a highlight reel of my day // Spit to Manly โ€ข Havana Beach Manly โ€ข Manly Beach โ€ข Chef's Palette Strathfield

The Nighthawk Diner // What do you do when Eastside Kitchen + Bar is closed for a foodie function (ahem, where's your invite @fooddiarysyd ??) and you're in need of a feed? After wandering around a bit, we spotted a chalkboard propped against a street sign that read: Nighthawk Diner. "Nighthawk Diner?" we asked ourselves, "but we only know of Nighthawk Food Truck." Intrigued, we stumbled in through the side door and found ourselves inside a fledgling eatery (fledgling indeed - they had only opened a few days ago) offering tacos, American diner-style sandos and, most intriguing of all, nachos in a bag. Needless to say, we ordered all that and more (i.e. cheese fries) ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ We rolled out, full to the brim, filled with cheese and carbs ๐Ÿง€๐ŸŒฎ๐ŸŒญ๐ŸŸ - @theabeorigin and I were especially happy because this was our final pig-out before getting down to the business of #healthyeating - wish us luck! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป / Swipe โ˜œ: Pre-dinner drinks at Gin Lane, where the cocktail menu is inventive and the variety of gins is plentiful. I had the Gin Lane (so yummy and refreshing and $8 during Happy Hour) and the simply-named but aesthetically-pleasing Cucumber & Rose (served in a snow globe) ๐Ÿธ
