Celebrate Good Times | 1 December 2018
The way my family celebrates an occasion is with a good feed, so it's no surprise that we went with the 'Feed Me' option at Chin Chin to celebrate the bro's birthday 🎉🎁🎂 We feasted on dish after tasty dish and, because 'Feed Me' is all about Chin Chin's greatest hits, there was no hassle with having to pick from the extensive menu - how easy is that? 🍽 And since birthdays are the perfect excuse for daytime drinking, we enjoyed some festive cocktails - these were fruit-based and a great thirst quencher on a balmy summer's day 🍹 // Chin Chin Sydney

Sáng by Mabasa // Those familiar with my Insta Stories would surmise that I am no stranger to Korean cuisine, but my recent visit to Sáng stands apart from the meals I've had at pocha-style venues or KBBQ joints. Sáng does traditional Korean food, but in an elevated way: each dish tasted wholesome and comforting, but plated with minimalistic and quiet beauty. Apparently there's a Korean term called "son mat", which means the taste of hand - that is, food cooked by hand with love and care. It's Pronounced Oste'ria // Another post from this year's birthday eating spree in Melbourne: dinner at Osteria Ilaria on my birthday (but my official birthday dinner actually came the day after - more on that in another post!) 🎉🍽🥂 Having worked off our late lunch (at Cumulus Inc.) penguin-watching, we were ready to be wowed by Ilaria's modern Italian dishes - and wowed we were! 🤤 The dishes were plated in an unfussy way, but each packed a complex and extremely tasty flavour profile 👌🏻 / We would have loved to stay for dessert, but seeing as we wanted to diversify our meals as much as possible, we decided to head to Om Nom Kitchen for dessert (and work off some of our dinner lol), where we enjoyed a nightcap and a sweet treat (or two) 🍑 // Osteria Ilaria • Om Nom Kitchen

Celebrated another year together the only way @theabeorigin and I know how: consuming a lot of aesthetically pleasing and delectable food 🍽 The LuMi Experience (full tasting menu) definitely fit the bill - 14 beautifully presented dishes (with a choice of 3 additional dishes - we opted for 2 of these) showcasing complex and mouthwatering flavours. Life is rosy when you have the honour of celebrating two people pledging their love and starting their life together ❤ Despite forecasted showers, the sun shone down and the heavens held back the rain (although there were certainly waterworks - from the groom no less lol). After a short and sweet ceremony in the Rose Garden, we retired to the Rose Suite for a bountiful lunch, tender speeches and some fun and games. Of the Clouds and Of the Sea // Bringing you another instalment of this year's birthday spam: birthday lunch at Cumulus Inc. I'd initially planned to have brunch there because I wanted to see if their housemade crumpets were still amazing, but our tummies needed time to digest all our Lune croissants (see second-last post). I wasn't disappointed though - our lunch, albeit crumpet-less, was delicious! We had the tuna tartare with goat's curd and green peas, jamon iberico, chorizo-stuffed dates with cider onions and ricotta dumplings with buttered spinach, almonds and currants. / After our late lunch, we took the tram down to St Kilda Beach. After a lazy saunter along the coast, we ended up at the pier at sunset and noticed a crowd forming. Little did we know that it was fairy penguin season and we just happened to be at the right place at the right time! As twilight descended, we were treated to the sight of a waddle (this is a legit term for a group of penguins!) of penguins 🐧🐧🐧 So cute and serendipitous - for us anyway, since we hadn't planned for this! // Cumulus Inc. • St Kilda Beach

Over the Moon at Lune // Finally getting to the part in this year's birthday spam where I post what I did on my actual birthday lol 🎉🎁🎂 So where does a food lover go to kick off her birthday? Well, this one decided Lune Croissanterie was an appropriately tantalising treat, so Lune Croissanterie is where we went! Despite there being only the two of us, we shared four delectable pastries: Black Forest croissant, lemon curd cruffin, pain au chocolat and almond croissant 🥐🥐🥐🥐 And how were they? Well, let's just say we can see why the New York Times claimed Lune to be the world's best croissant! 😍🤤👌🏻 / After our indulgent breakfast, we headed to the museum for the Vikings: Beyond the Legend exhibition. LoLuk Bistro // Let us eat French 🇫🇷 Whilst Marie Antoinette might never have uttered the words, "Let them eat cake," we'll take any excuse to enjoy la cuisine française 🍽 This is how we ended up 'celebrating Bastille Day' at LoLuk, despite it having passed four days ago and neither of us being French lol. We enjoyed the onion Niçoise tart, double cheese soufflé (as if we could ever say no to cheese and soufflé?), ratatouille Niçoise, duck breast (the homemade Provençal gnocchi was the perfect accompaniment) and the pork tenderloin for starters and mains. To finish, we had the tarte du jour (lemon and blood orange) and the pineapple soufflé (doubling down on soufflé is always a good idea). LoLuk prides itself on its traditional and authentic southern French menu and, whilst we're no experts in French cuisine, we can confirm that our meal was délicieux! 👌🏻👌🏻 / Swipe ☜ for the close-ups (not my best photos but I was working with one candle and a mobile phone 😅)

The High Life // Back to my Melbourne birthday eating extravaganza with this post on our epic evening at the super swish Lui Bar, Vue de Monde's sister bar 🌃 It was a night of all highlights and no lowlights: great view (from 55 floors above ground), amazing drinks (served in elegant glassware) and spectacular food (still dreaming of the chocolate soufflé)!
