Didn't get to celebrate Father's Day with my ol' Dad this year as he's overseas, so here's a throwback to last year's Father's Day dinner at Chao Ba in Chatswood - or should I say Father's Day *feast*, since we had the 'At Ba's Table' banquet: 10 flavoursome and colourful dishes designed to take you on a journey through Vietnam's rich food history. Over the Moon at Lune // Finally getting to the part in this year's birthday spam where I post what I did on my actual birthday lol 🎉🎁🎂 So where does a food lover go to kick off her birthday? Well, this one decided Lune Croissanterie was an appropriately tantalising treat, so Lune Croissanterie is where we went! Despite there being only the two of us, we shared four delectable pastries: Black Forest croissant, lemon curd cruffin, pain au chocolat and almond croissant 🥐🥐🥐🥐 And how were they? Well, let's just say we can see why the New York Times claimed Lune to be the world's best croissant! 😍🤤👌🏻 / After our indulgent breakfast, we headed to the museum for the Vikings: Beyond the Legend exhibition. LoLuk Bistro // Let us eat French 🇫🇷 Whilst Marie Antoinette might never have uttered the words, "Let them eat cake," we'll take any excuse to enjoy la cuisine française 🍽 This is how we ended up 'celebrating Bastille Day' at LoLuk, despite it having passed four days ago and neither of us being French lol. We enjoyed the onion Niçoise tart, double cheese soufflé (as if we could ever say no to cheese and soufflé?), ratatouille Niçoise, duck breast (the homemade Provençal gnocchi was the perfect accompaniment) and the pork tenderloin for starters and mains. To finish, we had the tarte du jour (lemon and blood orange) and the pineapple soufflé (doubling down on soufflé is always a good idea). LoLuk prides itself on its traditional and authentic southern French menu and, whilst we're no experts in French cuisine, we can confirm that our meal was délicieux! 👌🏻👌🏻 / Swipe ☜ for the close-ups (not my best photos but I was working with one candle and a mobile phone 😅)

The High Life // Back to my Melbourne birthday eating extravaganza with this post on our epic evening at the super swish Lui Bar, Vue de Monde's sister bar 🌃 It was a night of all highlights and no lowlights: great view (from 55 floors above ground), amazing drinks (served in elegant glassware) and spectacular food (still dreaming of the chocolate soufflé)! Edition Haymarket // Ringing in July with a special edition brunch at Edition Coffee Roaster's new outpost in Haymarket. Edition Haymarket continues the Scandi-Japanese traditions established by the OG venue but brings a greater focus on the Japanese side of things, not only through its menu but also in the slick decor. We had the barley risotto, onsen egg on the side, lamp rump, bacon & egg roll and - what is undoubtably already an Instagram hit - the Japanese soufflé pancake. Each dish was impeccably presented and intricately flavoured - love it when food tastes as good as it looks! Supernormal /suːpəˈnɔːm(ə)l/ Exceeding or beyond normal; exceptional // After working up an appetite playing tourist, we went for a late lunch at the much-hyped Supernormal. We ordered the duck bao (twice-cooked duck leg, vinegar and plum sauce), taiyaki and the poached soft meringue (with sheep's milk yoghurt and apple) - and, of course, umeshu 🥃 Did Supernormal live up to the hype? It sure did! Melbourne is known for its graffiti lanes, but these tend to cluster north of the Yarra. After my birthday gastronomy tour of Melbourne (posts still outstanding 😅), I thought it was only fair that I take @theabeorigin for a spot of gastronomy for his birthday. We'd been eyeing Momofuku Seiōbo for a while and knew of its reputation for inventive fusion dishes, so our expectations were high - and we were not disappointed! Wine and Dine and Ryne // Adding another post to the #wssinmel hashtag with this one of our dinner at Ryne. According to the Good Food review, Ryne is all about "measured elegance", "order among chaos" and "technical excellence" - and I could definitely see that in the beautifully plated, well-sauced and tasty dishes we had. Highlights for me were the bread (and the refills too lol), tomato amuse-bouche (my tastebuds were much amused), miso-marinated hiramasa kingfish (thanks @theabeorigin for letting me pinch some), slow-roasted duck breast (that mushroom pithivier was yum) and the Valrhona chocolate soufflé with mandarin sorbet 😋😋 Overall, a great introduction to the Fitzroy North dining scene (good pick by @guy.donald !) 👌 / Swipe ☜ for the close-ups // Ryne
