It’s amazing how our understanding of an entire sub culture can be based on a single movie, or even a phrase. I have never seen “diary of a geisha” yet, I probably shared the same simplified western opinion about this fascinating aspect of Kyoto. My favorite thing to do while traveling is to get a book about a singular topic of something I just witnessed there.

It’s not the 10,000 gates that makes this photo special. It’s the fact that there are no other people in it 😂 Fushimi Inari is one of the most visited sites in Kyoto. I had to show up at 5am and keep running ahead of people to get this shot!
