Earlier this month, Melbourne gutter-rock outfit CIVIC ushered forth a sublime collection of direct and hard-nosed noise in the form of EP New Vietnam. Brisbane’s Blank Realm emerges after a few years of quiet with an album of largely instrumental tracks, released through Hobbies Galore. While not continuing the dazzling psych-pop wonder of previous records, Last Seen is an engaging and impressive study in atmosphere, musicianship and sonic world building. Link to review in bio.

Introducing Terremoto. Separated by oceans, this post-punk-meets-new-wave outfit is subverting the physical constraints of conventional band composition. Featuring members of various groups including Ubik, Masses and Odio, Terremoto has just released a new track called ‘Capture’ – a taste of what to expect on the band’s forthcoming 12” EP coming mid-year through Behind the Beat Records. Canberra singer and songwriter Shoeb Ahmad has released ‘Significant Looks’ – an ambient cover of a track originally crafted by Sydney trio Clean Shirt. ‘Significant Looks’ is a track that is weighed down with undeniable melancholy and sadness, but here it is given proper delicate treatment and is imbued with a softness that is engrossing and undeniably powerful.
