Happy Sunday, storytellers! It’s so easy to get caught up in the “the more I get done the better I am” mentality. But it’s simply just not a true statement and provides enormous pressure in living day-to-day life. How we approach things and the way we feel in doing them is even more important than how much we are checking off our to-do list. Because if we are miserable and stressed out on the journey, then what’s the point? Typically when we approach tasks from a stressed out “do more” perspective, we don’t even really enjoy the destination or end goal. Instead, by the time we accomplish what we set out to do, we tend to look around and think okay, what’s next? Then the cycle begins all over again.
I invite you to slow down, to REST, especially if it’s what your body is craving. My body has been craving rest this weekend and I was so relieved this morning when my trainer asked to cancel; I was going to push myself to do it even though I knew my body needed the opposite. The relief was a great reminder to remember to really listen to what my body is telling me and respond to it accordingly.
So today will be a day of rest, starting with a long meditation, some slow stretching to get blood moving through a very sore body, tea time with my Mom, and a nice long catch up dinner with a best friend. All in all, very RESTful. Give yourself the gift of rest whenever you need it. Your mind, body and spirit will be far more productive when you feed yourself what you really need.
