In 2011, I went to Laos to find and document macaque breeding facilities. These animals were wild-caught or bred in captivity to be shipped to labs and universities around the world for research of all kinds. We visited three of these facilities. As a result of this investigative work, which was given to Cruelty Free International and presented at the CITES convention in Geneva the following year, two of the three farms were closed.

These photos were shot for the film Maximum Tolerated Dose and are currently featured on @thedodo's website.

An animal destined to be slaughtered in a few minutes' time.

Bearing witness confronts us with the faces of the individuals killed for food. The fear in their eyes, their desperation for water and comfort, their will to live.

@thesavemovement is opening eyes and hearts around the world.

On commercial dairy farms, all calves are always taken from their mothers so that the milk intended for them can be kept for human consumption.
.
We don't need the milk of another species. Going dairy free is easier than ever. If you're interested in trying dairy-free options, there is a wealth of information and advice online.

The peace and joy of sanctuaries is such a balm.

Resting and recharging aren't selfish: staying mentally and physically healthy is so important to keep activists in it for the long game. Burnout is a real thing and we lose good, effective voices for the animals to it. Find what works for you to re-energize and commit time to your own wellbeing. (Basically, this post is a prescription for cow cuddles. You're welcome.)

Puppy mills persist in all parts of the world. Breeding dogs are kept in barren cages, treated as nothing more than puppy machines. Please, always choose to #adopt.

Despite sustained public outcry and changes to provincial laws, these facilities are still common in Quebec, Canada, due to the lax enforcement of the law and a weak permit system.

When I asked him why he wanted to become a bullfighter, he replied: "Because I love bulls."

In Spanish style bullfighting, bulls are repeatedly stabbed to weaken them during the event, before eventually being killed.
