November last year, @Doyoueven did its first 7 figure month totalling ~1.12 million in revenue. This was achieved in less than 3 years of operation on the Shopify platform with the branded line of apparel.

In January we were promoted to the SMB group taking us into the top 1% of advertisers on this platform (continually refining our ad delivery and content). We've been personally invited to Facebook's Melbourne HQ next week which is exciting to say the least πŸŽ‰πŸš€

Over the next 12 month period, not only will the brand expand abroad to deliver an unparalleled online experience, but we're in the midst of exploring two new avenues to continually push the boundaries in becoming a household name. Will it happen? Who knows. The market decides what the market wants. But that doesn't deter us from striving for more.

From memes, to fitspo, to print to order merchandise, to developing a branded line of sports apparel, to becoming a household name. This journey has aged me, stressed me, brought copious amounts of joy and tears, and the older I get, the more I realise that the purpose behind my life has always been to struggle through the chase rather than embrace the 'success'. I've never really stopped. I've constantly been ticking over through monotonous repetitious tasks from the beginning (a quality I surely inherited from my dad). My nature is competitive (a value enforced by my mum) and that in turn has lead me to realise that I'll never truly be happy with settling. So here's to the rest of my life - Forcing myself into uncomfortable situations and a chase that will never cease to end.

This job is not glamorous. I stress, and try not to show it, 24/7. I work relentlessly towards goals and block out the noise that follows. I've had breakdowns. I'm human. I've been doing this for 6 years now. This was not overnight (although the best success stories 'seem' overnight).

I never had an idealised goal. I never wanted to go global from the onset. I didn't even know what going global meant, let alone entailed. I just recognised an opportunity. That opportunity was spurred on by the fact that I was incredibly unhappy with my life, and the path it was heading down. Recognising that uncomfortably was a goal in itself. The rest was simply the icing on the cake.

I remember a regular occurrence after primary school would involve me running back home to see if my car downloads had finished for the day (dial up and limewire πŸ˜…). Anything and everything I could find on the internet about the Supra, I had to consume. I was literally obsessed. Drawings. Printings. Imitating sounds. Most people didn't get it. Everybody still doesn't. I guess that's just me πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

I guess it's my turn ❀️ I want to avoid the cliches but my mum literally is super mum. A mum that escaped communist reign in Bulgaria, pregnant with myself, going through soul crushing battles to get to Aussie shores. I am so grateful to be your son. I am so grateful to have been raised by a lady that holds so much strength and resilience. Your persistence and determination in life is something truly admirable and catalyses my want and need to continually be the best version of myself.

Continuing from my last post, year 2 involved a tonne of changes. Even though the print-to-order fulfilment system was a massive success (and had adequately served its purpose), I knew it had run its course and @Doyoueven was destined for more (much more).

It took 12 full months of R&D which entailed sourcing warehousing and grounding myself with lock-in contracts (goodbye liquidity πŸ‘€πŸ˜±), setting up freight solutions (Auspost and DHL for international and Toll DX Express for domestic) and most importantly designing, sampling, testing and finalising the premium line of apparel - just to get going. Developing the branded line was undeniably the most difficult aspect as it required overcoming language barriers, learning how to design, learning how to illustrate design files (I'd often illustrate changes on paint or sketch πŸ™ˆ - hey, where there's a will, there's a way πŸ™ŒπŸΌ), testing multiple manufacturers quality assurance, organising freight solutions and brokerage, etc. I think the development of the branded line deserves its own dedicated vlog so it's something I'll come back too πŸŽ₯

Towards the tail end of the year, we had 12 products to show for 12 months worth of gruelling effort, whilst the old platform had over 300 different SKUs (no balance whatsoever βš–οΈ). I couldn't be reliant on such a small variety of product base to support a complete transition from our old platform to the new, so during this period of R&D, I concurrently ran, and marketed, the two stores until there was enough development within the branded line to sustain sales and build revenue.

Even though the sales suggested a lack of progress and stagnation (and left me feeling somewhat deflated), I knew that I had effectively taken a few steps back in order to take a monumental step forward. πŸš€

With the immediate success of the first year (2.5 million in sales via print to order), I wanted to capitalise on the tremendous front end we'd managed to create (catering to over 45,000 orders in the first year alone). However, making that blind leap of faith and ditching the print-to-order system and investing in creating a back end, which undoubtedly meant a massive increase in overheads, was an overwhelming and scary process.

Although I was incredibly happy with the support the brand had garnered, I was limited by the range of products we could offer. I was also restricted to another companies quality assurance, which meant that we couldn't deliver a unique branded experience. This led to a lot of vital missed opportunities as I was unwilling to collaborate with a lot of early influencers, who had expressed interest in the brand, due to the products offered (my biggest mistake to date).

If I could summarise the second year in one word it would be transition. I felt like I was starting from ground zero, AGAIN (ground hog day anyone?). Although I had weighed up the opportunity costs involved, the one thing that I hadn't really accounted for was time - I had no conceptual understanding of what was involved in building branding and how long the transition to a backend system would take. If you add a dash of the overwhelming unknown, mix together a pinch of complacency and slush it all together, you have a pretty good recipe for procrastination (both willing and unwilling). I would constantly have an overbearing need to do a million things all at once but often felt powerless/hopeless πŸ”‘ the key here is to stop OVER THINKING THINGS!

Share your truths - YEAR 1 // ground zero βœ”οΈ

The year is 2012 (late 2012). When I started @Doyoueven five and a half years ago, I had no clue about ecommerce, logistics, freight, warehousing, and everything that encompassed back end systems. To this day, I'm still refining my strengths and perfecting my craft. I quickly learnt that running a company within the activewear niche involved running two companies concurrently (all things branding v all things products).
.
The majority of my first year was spent crunching numbers (social numbers), and driving traffic through influencer based guerrilla marketing. I networked with everyone and brought a tonne of growth to our vehicle pages, which was leveraged to bring rapid growth to the @Doyoueven branding. This was back before pages even had a schedule system so I was periodically spending all day posting, and waking up every hour to systematically post (all in the name of numbers - #TeamNoSleep).
.
Since I was a broke uni student, I couldn't afford to create overheads, especially when I had no data from our audience or what their consumer behaviours were. Utilising a third party team to print and ship was the only means to bypass the current predicament. I knew at the time that this was just a temporary solution, all in the name of gaining data. Where most people settle/d, I saw the bigger picture and quickly wanted to form a backend that catered to the huge front end support that was created - a legitimate brand with raving brand culture.

Despite our first year disadvantage/advantage (whichever way you look at it), we were able to generate 2.5 million in sales through our third parties platform - this inevitably set the wheels in motion for the huge learning experience that was our second year.

This is a throwback to the first drive and inspection of my 1/141 Millenium Jade M-Spec Nur BNR34 GTR that was imported last year πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸš—

Not many people know this but almost 6 years ago, to this date, I sold my only possession, a 1993 Toyota Supra RZ to help fund @Doyoueven and alleviate myself from financial stresses // at the time, I was struggling with a few bills, a registration, an unwarranted fine, and my own pressures to figure out what I wanted to do with life. It took me 4.5 years (22 at the time) to realise that my double bachelors degree served no purpose and that Law/Finance wasn't for me.
.
Support was far and in between but one thing that's remained true is my innate ability to persevere, problem solve, find a solution and push forward. Nothing has ever been too big or too problematic and when the opportunity presented itself, and I felt the timing was right, a sequence was created that's had a domino effect on my life.
.
Fast forward and here we are today. Enjoying a snap of a car I only dreamed of owning. ✌🏼
