You know the movie “Sliding Doors?” I often think of the message of that movie when an elevator door opens.
A guy in college once told me when I told him I was moving to LA to be an actress: “Don’t be an actress. You’re meant to be a CEO.”
He never told me I could be both.
No one did.
And, yet here I am.
If I had gotten what I thought I wanted back in the day, I would’ve perhaps been married for years now with a child or two before I was even done being a child myself.
Or, perhaps if my music career would have taken off the way I prayed, I would’ve been touring 300 days a year. And, y’all. I would have been TERRIBLE at living on a bus. Let’s just be honest about that.
If I had gotten either of those dreams I dreamed when I dreamed them, I wouldn’t be here in @VisitPalmDesert today running from hotel to food tastings to fashion shows to interviews with celebrity chefs.
I would have never been able to taste this sweet life that I never even knew I craved.
And, it all boils down to the “Sliding Doors” Philosophy: one door that closed a little too early or one that opened earlier than it should
One yes that could have been a no.
Or, one no that could have been a yes.
Those last ones are the ones to pay attention to.
The no’s are to be listened to.
If it feels over and over like you’re hitting your head against a wall. Stop.
If no energy ever seems to be sent in your dream’s favor, consider that it might in fact be an “unanswered wish” that is not meant to come true for you.
Perhaps to protect you.
Perhaps to guide you to do something else.
Follow the energy and trust that it’s going in that direction for a purpose.
But having said that, PLEASE don’t mistake stumbles, falls and failures as “No’s” - for those happen to test you - to make sure you’re worthy of the wish you’re wishing for.
Look, I’ve fallen a lot - I continue to fall - but it’s the process of getting up and, how I choose to stand after I’ve fallen, that has made me uniquely who I am.
Let your falls inspire who you are when YOU stand.
And, step forward when that next door opens for you.
