Orkney Islands  An archipelago of over 70 islands off the north coast of Scotland. Vibrant. Unique. Inspirational. Share your journey #VisitOrkney

These golden fields won't be here for much longer. Farmers across Orkney are beginning the harvest after a long, relatively dry summer. We'll miss watching the barley sway like the sea in the wind, but at least we know it will be back next year again ❀ #visitorkney #loveorkney

Exploring Orkney's coastline is always special. This delicate sea stack is found on the west coast of the mainland, with stunning views out over the Atlantic. The surrounding cliffs provide perfect views, and on a calm evening you can hear waves and seabirds echo around you as the sun sets gently over the horizon. It's a beautiful place 😍 #visitorkney #loveorkney

Just your standard colourful Orkney countryside view at this time of year. The bere is starting to gain that yellow hue, the skies are still blue and fields are green. We'd love for this summer to go on forever, but somehow we don't think we'll be that lucky πŸ˜‚ #visitorkney #loveorkney

Not much happens in Hoy Sound without Ward Hill looming large in the background. The summer months see the Sound full of ferries, creel boats and dive charters, taking intrepid divers out to the wrecks of the German Fleet in Scapa Flow. Plenty for Ward Hill to watch as the days and weeks go past πŸ˜€ #visitorkney #loveorkney

A solitary standing stone on a calm, warm summer evening in Orkney. The Ring of Brodgar is such a beautiful place to be in weather like this 😍 #visitorkney #loveorkney

Coastal walks and hidden beaches, we ❀ summer walks in Orkney #visitorkney #loveorkney

We love all the shapes and textures of the Orkney countryside at this time of year, there's always so much activity to take in too πŸ˜€ #visitorkney #loveorkney

We're definitely going to miss these kinds of nights when they're gone 😍 Still plenty of time to enjoy them yet, though...hopefully 🀞 πŸ“· by @fionaannal #visitorkney #loveorkney

The west coast of Orkney's mainland has so many beautiful places to stop and watch the ocean. Yesnaby is a pretty special spot. Winter sees huge seas and wild waves crash into the cliffs, but summer brings golden light, sea pinks and the perfect conditions for a coastal walk. Simply put, it's an incredible location come rain or shine. #visitorkney #loveorkney

It hasn't been the best weekend weather-wise here in Orkney, so to cheer us up we found this image we took at the Ring of Brodgar earlier in the summer. It was just the most perfect, serene, sunset scene, with the sky glowing gold and not even a bit of breeze in the air. Even the swan in the foreground was soaking up the atmosphere πŸ˜€ #visitorkney #loveorkney

Who fancies a weekend walk on this beautiful beach? The island of Sanday has a lot going for it, but its miles and miles of beaches are definitely at the top of the list for us. You'll always get a stretch of golden sand to yourself, that's for sure. #visitorkney #loveorkney

There's always a lighthouse or two to be seen on a road trip around the islands. This one, on the coastline of Graemsay, stands guard over Scapa Flow and Hoy Sound. There isn't much call for it at the moment, with the long days and short nights. But now August is here and the weeks seem to be tumbling past, it will soon be lighting up the autumn sky once again. #visitorkney #loveorkney
