Virginia Institute of Autism  Non profit in Charlottesville, VA. Helping people overcome the challenges of autism.

We wanted to give a HUGE thank you and shout out to India Hill, one of our former JCH instructors, and to @worldstrides her current employer, for setting up a Holiday book drive that VIA is a recipient of!

This past Saturday many of our staff volunteered at the Toy Lift to bring gifts to 20 of our students! Thank you to our staff for volunteering, and thank you to everyone who donated gifts to this great cause!

Shout out to VIA's Journal Club! They meet every week to discuss serious issues in autism treatment. Here they are at last weeks meeting!

Congratulations to VIA's Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Einar Ingvarsson, for his publication in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis of an article he co-authored on the use of tokens to reinforce learning and behavior!

Meet Megan Evo Greenwood, our new Coordinator of Admission and Community Engagement (CACE for short). In her new position, Megan will focus on overseeing and improving student intake and discharge processes, developing the expansion of community learning experiences for the school, and supporting our Family Resource Navigator. Currently she is working on learning as much as she can about VIA! She spends most of her time in the classroom to get to know the instructors, supervisors, behavior analysts, and the students. She says that, "I'm really enjoying the magic - it's incredible what happens here... My favorite thing about VIA so far is the dedication and compassion you can so clearly see that our staff have for the students here. It's undeniable, inspiring, and humbling. It's family!"

We're thankful for our gifted colleagues. Just after we snapped this shot of Holly Fox with Wesley yesterday, we learned that it was her 4 year work anniversary at VIA. Holly started as an Instructor and now serves as a SPED Teacher. Also, congratulations to our other staff who've celebrated anniversaries at VIA this month -Tyler Proulx (6 years), Nicolle Tarbert (4 years), Amanda Bates (1 year), Katie Mullin (1 year), and Cypress Walker (1 year)! To everyone who works at VIA -- whose dedication, compassion, and expertise is on display here every day -- have a warm and relaxing Thanksgiving, everyone, and we'll see you back here next week.

What we're thankful for..... Our transportation partners from the school districts across central Virginia who deliver our students to us safe every day. These folks are professionals who work hard to meet the special needs of the families we serve. Today was the birthday of Gary - one of our bus drivers from Albemarle. Some of our families and lots of the Albemarle transport folks turned out to celebrate. Thank you Gary, and thank you everyone at Albemarle County Public Schools Transportation. And thanks as well to all of our transportation partners across the state. We hope you have a happy and relaxing Thanksgiving.

VIA has Rosie power!

We wanted to remind everyone that this Thursday at 12:30 is our Annual Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat at JCH! We hope to see you there!

November 11 - 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. Live and Learn Information and Resource Fair @ PVCC Main Building, 501 College Drive.
