What is gluten? Gluten is a family of proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, and triticale (a combination of wheat and rye). It acts as a "glue" in foods such as cereal, bread, and pasta, helping them hold their shape.
For most people gluten is completely harmless but for me it's become a problem. After coming off a fruitarian diet for 2 and a half months I experienced extreme stomach pains, bloating, gas and constipation every time I ate foods containing gluten. I cut gluten out for 6-8 weeks, sticking to mainly rice, potatoes, quinoa, legumes, fruit n' veggies and was completely fine. I then introduced gluten again and experienced the same pain and discomfort.
This post is just to help anyone who may be experiencing these same discomforts. Try cutting gluten out for 6-8weeks then introduce it again and see if you feel any different. Many people are unaware they are intolerant.
It's not only people with coeliac disease who may have a negative reaction to gluten.
