Ellsworth Kelly's "Austin," a space for art and contemplation at the @blantonmuseum & constructed by @overlandpartners is coming along! It is scheduled to open in Spring 2018, and we're excited to have it in walking distance! #architecture #art #design #experientialart #ellsworthkelly #austin #blantonmuseum

Visiting Professor Daniel Bonilla’s Advanced Studio went on an exploration of Colombia in order to understand the material and cultural make-up of two materials: bamboo and clay. Sites included the vibrant Bogota city center, rural coffee regions, and small sites in between. See dynamic representations of the different sites from our students on view in the Goldsmith Hall lobby.

Follow the UTSOA @materials_lab to discover new materials each week, like this cork-backed felt tile from @filzfelt that is made from 100% wool felt harvested from Merino sheep in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. This renewable resource gives the tiles moisture resistant, fire retardant, and biodegradable attributes-a great choice for any interior wall! #materials #materialslab #materialoftheweek #felttiles #design #texture #tile

We were honored to be part of an incredible, true Austin tribute to visionary Austin architect, alumnus, valued mentor, and life member of UTSOA's advisory council, Dick Clark. Dean Michelle Addington announced very generous and transformative gifts Clark envisioned for the school following a film screening, and the tribute wrapped with a special performance by Texas legend Willie Nelson. Stay tuned for more news tomorrow. #texasarchitecture #architecture #austin #whatstartshere #willienelson #austinarchitecture #trueaustin

This semester, students in @gulf.coast.designlab are dedicating their time to assisting our Gulf Coast neighbors. This past weekend, 21 UTSOA students made the trip to help friends at @camparanzazu with cleanup. Located in Rockport, TX, the camp is in one of the coastal areas most heavily affected by Hurricane Harvey. Roofs were torn off, the cabins sustained water damage, and many of the live oaks on campus were lost.
Cleanup and reconstruction efforts will continue throughout the semester.

New York. Photo by Asher Intebi. Courtesy UTSOA Visual Resources Collection. “I found that the restrictiveness of the darkroom processes and the brutal honesty of shooting on black and white film reinvigorated my love of the image. I discovered that, despite the additional burdens associated with shooting on film, the analog process trains the eye to more sensitively filter the abundance of meaning and poiesis that exists in our world.” – Asher Intebi [BArch ‘17]
We talked to recent graduate Asher Intebi about his new photography exhibition, "Afterimage: Evocations Through Light(ness)," his experience using the Visual Resources Collection's darkroom, life after graduation, and more. Discover his exciting work and how he views the relationship between architecture and photography in a brief interview on our website. Link in bio!

Undergraduate student Fiona Wong envisions a new Austin Convention Center with her project, "The Pinch." Professor: John Blood | Studio title: Sound Building
| Type: Integrated Studio
Image 1: The Pinch is the intersection of the two realms; the natural and the urban. Lady Bird Lake runs parallel with the street grid of Austin down-town, but the Pinch grabs hold of and pinches the land to accentuate the differences between the two. The site was originally a landfill. Image 2: The Pinch allows multiple walkways to converge and disperse through it, closing in and opening up the view as one passes through it, to emphasize a sinuous experience that raises appreciation of the precious urban landscape. #design #architecture #architectureschool #imadethat #utaustin #austin #urbandesign #planning
