KNOW THE FACTS, DONT GET TOO GEEKED!
What Proposal 1 - marijuana legalization - did NOT do:
1.) It did not take effect immediately. Until the ballots are certified in December, the law has not been changed.
2.) It does NOT change the policy of any employers. You can still be fired for smoking marijuana by your employer. A prospective employer can refuse to hire you if you fail the drug test.
AND, if you are injured on the job, and they find drugs in your system, you can STILL be denied for Worker’s Comp, and Unemployment Insurance.
3.) It does not permit EVERYONE to grow, possess or use marijuana. You have to be 21 years old. Also, if you are on probation or parole, and the terms of your release are that you will be drug tested, then using marijuana can send you back to jail.
4.) It does not change federal law. The DEA, the FBI, or any federal law enforcement agency can still arrest you on federal drug charges. This may be unlikely if you are not a major seller or grower, but it can happen.
5.) It does NOT Allow You to grow, possess or smoke in a federal housing project. If you live in a federally funded housing project, and are caught in possession of marijuana, you AND EVERY ADULT WHO LIVES IN THAT RESIDENCE can still be banned from EVER LIVING in a federal subsidized housing project.
6.) You can STILL LOSE federal grants, scholarships and loans for college, training or business due to being caught with marijuana.
7.) It does not free ONE PERSON who has already been arrested or convicted on marijuana charges. Everyone who is awaiting trial, on trial, in prison, on probation, or on parole due to marijuana arrests, is STILL in the criminal justice system.
8.) It does not allow you to smoke weed EVERYWHERE! There are still public areas that smoking weed is illegal. You can’t even smoke cigarettes or drink everywhere. Marijuana is similar.
9.) You cannot grow, possess, or smoke as much as you want. There is a limited amount that you can have before you are breaking the law.
10.) It does not ensure that the marijuana you buy is JUST marijuana. A lot of growers use chemical herbicides, fertilizers, pest killers, and even
