Jahan hopes to be able to go to university and become a doctor. ‘I want to become a doctor so I can take care of the people in this village, especially children and women. The people are very poor and cannot afford health care.  As a result, many die”. Yesterday, Ted Chaiban, @UNICEF Director of Programme Division and  Manuel Fontaine, Director of @UNICEF Office of Emergency Programmes, met residents of Kamary village of Mazar-e-Sharif during their visit to Afghanistan. As a result of drought, villagers spend their whole day in search of water.  @unicefafghanistan is currently distributing water to villagers, but not enough to meet their needs.  #ForEveryChild, water

“On a daily basis, there are about ten of us who leave Kangori village to Sholgara district in search of water. The trip takes us 6 hours, and we are able to fetch water for a day’s use,” says 16- year old Farid Ahmad.
We met Farid yesterday on a visit with @UNICEF Director of Programme Division, Ted Chaiban; Director of @UNICEF Office of Emergency Programmes, Manuel Fontaine; and @UNICEFSouthAsia Regional Director, Jean Gough who are visiting Afghanistan to interact with children and listen to their needs and aspirations.
