The Unbound Project  Profiling women on the front lines of animal advocacy around the world. A project by @weanimals.

It's all the same really 💜

Today marks 40 years since trailblazing animal activist, Patty Mark founded Animal Liberation Victoria (@animallib)! 🙌
.
Mark is fierce and fearless in her efforts to change the world for animals. Through pioneering a form of activism we now know as “open rescue,” she has helped to change the conversations about activism and about how nonhuman animals are treated and valued in society.
.
"So much has changed and so much hasn't. But there is now a burgeoning global animal rights movement that is NOT going away! It is only getting stronger and stronger and stronger. Well done to each and every activist, wherever you may be, for every single thing you do to help animals." – Patty Mark

This #ThrowbackThursday we're highlighting the groundbreaking investigative work of animal advocate, Ruth Harrison (1920-2000).
.
Harrison's well-illustrated and meticulously researched book 'Animal Machines: The New Factory Farming System' sparked a powerful reaction through the photography it used, influencing the British government to make major changes in animal welfare and interrupting the advertising fantasy of meat, dairy, and eggs.
.
Women like Harrison have made our work today for animals possible. Their stories now inspire us.

Animaladies” is a term “inspired by feminist animal studies – work that is attentive to the role that gender, race, class and ability play in shaping a cultural politics of distraction and protest, which include the scapegoating, shaming, and hystericizing of animal advocates.” The Animaladies II Conference will explore how cultural practices, institutions, industries and policies can distract people from acknowledging the damaged relationships between human and non-human animals. Join several keynote speakers on December 13-14, 2018 at the University of Wollongong, Australia.

What started 25 years ago with a four-month-old capuchin monkey has since grown into @JungleFriendsPrimateSanctuary, the largest sanctuary for new world monkeys in North America.

@KariBagnall was an interior decorator living in the suburbs when she stumbled unexpectedly into the world of the primate pet trade. As a devoted mother to her monkey daughters Samantha and Charlotte, Kari did all she could to give them the best possible life – learning as much as she could and bringing the young animals everywhere with her. What followed is a remarkable story of good intentions and what can happen when we have the courage to make things right.
