Ron Sebastian, a renowned Gixtsan artist from Hazelton, B.C. who carved our Ceremonial Chairs and Talking Stick in 1992 and later the Senate doors, returned to UNBC last week to polish and wax the intricate pieces of art. The Ceremonial Chairs and Talking Stick are used in key University events such as Convocation and graduation celebrations. #ThisIsUNBC #FirstNationsArt #AboriginalArt #northernbc #UNBC #universityart

Repost from @unbccs - It’s baaack! The Upper Fraser White Sturgeon Biology Tour is an incredibly rare opportunity to participate in a catch-tag-release program, with partners from the Lheidli T’ennneh and EDU, which helps towards conservation research of this prehistoric species. Our First Nations Centre organized a traditional drum making workshop today that was open to all students. Participants, including from Campus Cousins and our current Elder in Residence Dempsey Bob, used deer and moose hides soaked in water to make them more pliable and easier to work with. Once dry, images will be painted on them. Used for various celebrations and cultural traditions, no two drums sound the same, as the sounds represent the heart beat of those who make them. UNBC students who are interested in attending a future workshop can visit the First Nations Centre for more information. #ThisIsUNBC #UNBC #Aboriginal #drums #traditionalknowledge #indigenous #FirstNations

Are you a full or part-time post-secondary student studying in #CityofPG? Are you interested in researching about or working in local government?
