Recent work: digital signage for Google SP–AN conference

We worked with the Google Design team to design and build a digital signage system which could display schedule and speaker announcements, wayfinding, time and help info, and short content excerpts. We also imagined it as a nice visual layer playing in the background that could show off the beautiful vignette animations the Google team made. Updated from a flat CMS that runs entirely locally.

Archived work: FEATURING with Pharrell Williams/i am OTHER and Collaborative Fund

Who said emails can't be a place for interesting design? Collaborative Fund, in collaboration with Pharrell Williams' i am OTHER brand, approached us about designing and developing an email newsletter about interesting startups for people outside the investor/tech demographic. With the Collaborative Fund team, we identified emails as being a pretty effective way to communicate this kind of content in a nice self-contained format. Traditionally emails have been an afterthought or people use the outdated technologies they're built on as an excuse for boring design. Instead, we realized that it was an easy medium to do something different in so we embraced system fonts and tables, and asked how we could push them to get an interesting result that people would actually stop to read.

Archived: Baggu Custom

We're big fans of @baggu so we were really excited to work with them on their site for creating custom bags. The site had to communicate the variety of customization options and combinations (material, printing process, bag style, etc.) so we came up with an interactive filter that would show you examples of past collaborations.

Archived: Wise

Because of the emphasis on progress-tracking in the product, an iOS app for self-guided learning, we created a variable W for the logomark that is based on how progress is visualized. That variable line/curve combination informed the rest of the system, including this pattern. The colors come from layers in the app that serve as navigation aids.

Archived: Kidtech filters

The team at Collaborative Fund asked us to create a space online to highlight all the great startups working on tech-enabled products for kids and parents. We came up with the idea of making a website that would offer parents (and makers) a directory of vetted products for kids, as well as a way for makers and startups to submit their own projects. We called it KidTech to capture the idea that this was an emerging segment of startups, and created an identity system around the idea of building blocks that could work as visual filters for sorting the products by type, age group, and platform. For the type, Platform by Commercial Type was a natural fit, with its varying widths and super round Os.

Process: XXIX totebags

We gave ourselves the brief of “improbable loads” and put our minds to work on things you wouldn’t normally want to carry in a tote. (Do not carry raw eggs this way.)
