Torres del Paine is one of the most spectacular national parks I've visited! I was literally crying with happiness to see the beauty!
Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, they have strict rules and regulations to protect the park, e.g. no open fire, trash must be carried out of the park, camping only at authorized areas, etc. And the staffs and rangers keep reminding the rules to the visitors.
(Cerita lengkapnya ada di buku "The Naked Traveler: 1 Year Round-the-World Trip")
Unfortunately, some irresponsible tourists started the fire that burned the park. In 2005, a Czech backpacker sparked a gas stove caused the fire that the Czech government donated US$ 1 million to reforestation efforts. In 2011, 1 Israelis lit a bonfire and 1 Israelis burned toilet papers caused fire too. Volunteers around the world came to help.
Of course, they put in jail and paid fines.
I hope we can learn from this and won't happen again in Gili Lawa or anywhere else.
