Today was the last day of summer, but legit it feels like the first here in Toronto. The last few months have been tepid at best. Suckiest summer ever. This week and into next we're seeing temperatures into the high 20s. The heat and humidity is my element. If you didn't notice, I often don't wear all that much ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Bring it ๐ŸŒž.

FREE WORKOUT CLASS !! ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ‘Š๐ŸผWednesday September 20 (tomorrow) at Lulu Lemon Queen Street store, downtown Toronto, 7pm. This is one of my coolest clients @whatsupannaaa and she teaches essentrics -- a dynamic, stretch-y workout that that simultaneously lengthens and strengthens every muscle in the body. Drawing on the flow and grace of tai chi it's something I've wanted to try for a while, to sort of counter all the lifting I do. Try it with me tomorrow! Did I mention, it's free!! ๐Ÿ‘ฏ

Ladies, take it is easy on yourself, be realistic and love what you have. I had a new client this morning who had a solid training history -- I thought she looked great, and she was strong. But then she proceeded to pour out all her frustrations with her body's appearance, nit-pick shortcomings, grabbing a little bit of skin here calling it fat, and outlining her master plan for sculpting her body into a visionary work of art of perfect balance and aesthetics. And this is all too common in women, to hate and to want to change. 1. All these imperfections you see, no one else does. They love you for you. 2. Perfection doesn't exist. And anything that might be called perfection is boring. 3. Genetics will both make some bodily progress possible and hinder others. Whether you like it of not, you were dealt a certain body type, structure and are predisposed to store fat in certain areas. Yes, you can change some aspects of your body through training and nutrition but it's not surgery. 4. Your body will change as you age. And that's a beautiful thing.

I love my body and it's not because I think it's perfect. God knows I used to obsess over stupid things too. And I do still kinda wanna change some things. But trust me, once you accept the uniqueness of your body, and love it for being capable, your life will be so much better. Cliche time: train because you love your body, not because you hate it.

@bretcontreras1 has been banging on about this exercise for a while. But, I dunno, I just couldn't bring myself to try really try it -- until he made me in a workshop a couple weeks ago. It's good! Gives a nice burn in the upper glutes, in a hard to hit spot. But yeah, you gotta give zeros f**ks about what others are thinking. Try 50 lbs for 50 reps. .

๐Ÿ’ฅ Training frequency and intensity ๐Ÿ’ฅ Once a week ain't really gonna cut it. Twice is ok. Thrice is good. A quartet (oh, c'on Edith! Four times!) is a real sweet spot. I myself fall more into the 5 to 6 times. The more frequent you train, the better you have to manage the stress done to your body. You can't be training to failure, exhaustion and metabolic damage if you wanna train often. I'm guilty of doing this in the past, running myself into the ground thinking more would reap more. I'm much smarter about how I train myself and my clients now. Take a chill pill and let the good times roll. In @industryactive ๐Ÿ“ธ @vemodalen_1975

Anyone know what this exercise is called? Til further notice I'm calling it hip push up clamshell thingie. Super awesome body weight glute exercise that'll put the burn on you. Try 15 to 20 reps, 3 sets and cry. Outfit by @industryactive
