Traca Miller  A homeschooling mom of 3, married to a veterinarian who dragged me to the coast and said, "Come on! Just think of how great the photos will be..."

It's amazing how much difference a couple of weeks has made. These old oak trees have started putting out new green leaves! It's been heartening to see this faint green tint all around town. We need this to keeps spirits up while the piles of debris along the road grow larger and larger as people clear out their homes and businesses and drag their very lives to the curb.

As a resident of Rockport, TX, it's so strange to still be feeling the effects of hurricane Harvey and two weeks later to watch Irma as she hits Florida; to have first hand knowledge of what they are about to experience is heart breaking.
Even stranger is the fact that I was just on Marco Island a few months ago and photographed their beautiful city and beaches.
Two small towns separated by the same waters, and both are locations where #Harvey and #Irma made landfall.
Praying for both of our towns and all the people in both Texas and Florida. .

The tree-lined tunnel, running down 12th street on the way to The Big Tree in Lamar, will never be quite the same after hurricane Harvey.
I loved running down this road after a rain, or riding bikes with the kids under this canopy. Whenever anyone would come to visit, we always followed this path to see The Big Tree.
For so many years these old oaks stretched across this span of road to touch their neighbors on the other side. Now it's the residents of Rockport who are reaching across each road to touch our neighbors on all sides.

The kids and I are staying at my parent's house in Crawford for a few days until we can get back to Rockport. We spent Crosby's birthday at Baylor's Mayborn Museum! They are offering free admission to anyone with an ID from the counties affected by Harvey. Baylor is also offering admission/parking to Saturday's game for evacuees. I contacted Cameron Park Zoo and they were working to get city approval to offer zoo admission with an ID, and I've also been told that the same is true for San Antonio Zoo. Texas State parks are doing what they can to offer camping spots, cabins, and shelters for families that have been displaced. Public libraries will help with the use of computers and printers. I also know that AT&T is waiving all overage charges from 8/26-9/1 for customers with a billing address in disaster areas.
Simple things individually that, collectively, speak volumes and inspire hope in many Texans.

Happy 5th Birthday, Crosby Jane!
Hey, remember that time that I hauled you to Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Utah? And remember during our birthday week we saw a total solar eclipse, played with our cousins and friends, swam in the hot springs, hiked along the Continental Divide, played in the Great Salt Lake, and watched Old Faithful (3 times!)? And remember how four days before our birthday we watched, helplessly from miles away, as our hometown was destroyed by Harvey? And how we prayed for Daddy and all the brave men and women who were in harm's way as they did their jobs? Remember all of these things. Remember that we are blessed and loved by a Creator who is greater than a hurricane and taller than the highest peak. Remember the beauty and mysteries of our world, the miracles among devastation, and the resilience of a community. Remember the gift of family who help us get back home, bring us food, provide us a place to live, and keep us in their thoughts and prayers.
I know it's not how we imagined your birthday, but don't ever forget one minute of it.

Hitting the hot springs in Thermopolis.

The Wedding of the Waters is the point where the Wind River officially becomes the Bighorn River. They are actually the same river, but because of its geographic relation to the Continental Divide, it appears to flow in two different directions. Early trappers and explorers referred to the north-to-south flowing portion as the Wind River, and the south-to-north flowing portion as the Bighorn. It wasn't until years later that cartographers proved these two seemingly different rivers to be one.

Anytime we stop I make them get out and climb, jump, or run. Crosby calls it "getting all the wiggles out" before we have to sit and buckle up again. We stopped along the Wind River just above the dam at Boysen Reservoir and stretched our legs with about 15 Harleys. Bikers and kids have quite a lot in common when it comes to pit stops.

We left Casper today and drove northwest through Shoshoni and the Wind River Canyon toward Thermopolis and Yellowstone. The kids made fun of my desire to stop and take photos at "every wide place along the road'. But then they would have missed things like this... .

First a science lesson, then a geography lesson! It was so amazing to be in #Wyoming for the #Eclipse! Look at all those pins from all over our world representing the people who traveled to #Casper to experience the #totality.
