--'Silence engulfs me because all of Provincetown is nearly empty it seems. This place devoid of skyscrapers, traffic lights and all the other trappings of the real world is empty the way Christmas Eve is after a certain time of evening given into night. P'Town feels like that now, except for the center of town where everyone is gathered on Commercial Street in anticipation of the parade. Leaving that behind, on a day filled with revelers and celebration, I make my way toward Kay Landon's house and the reason I have returned to P'Town. Kay no longer has the property she once did in Truro. Elderly and ill lately, she has holed up here in Provincetown at the edge of town in the home I remember from that summer.
