Day 15 in our prep for #birdsofparadise #pose. This is a variation of #hanumanasana or #splits by having the leg on an angle. For some this version will be more accessible. #try and see what you can do. No I did not #fall down! This is a hip variation for half #monkey pose or #ardhahanumanasana for day 14 of working towards #birdsofparadise. Come into #lizard pose then shift hips back to stack hip over knee, flex the foot of the extended leg and reach forward. Moving into our next prep pose for #birdsofparadise is a variation of standing #handtobigtoe. Stand tall, root into the standing leg, bring the opposite knee up and take your #peacesign fingers to your big toe. You can press foot forward then slowly open the leg to the side. Keep lifting your rib cage away from the hips and grow tall out the top of the head. Moving on to another #asana to get us ready for #birdsofparadise is #wildthing. Opening the shoulders and chest while waking up the back and legs show their #power. You can start in 3 legged #dog, take the lifted leg, flex for he foot, bend the knee and follow that foot around to flip the body. Lift the hips and reach back. My #upperbody #strengthtraining #workout from last week. The best feeling is when you realize how much this work applies to other aspects of being #healthy and having #fun. Two years ago I tried indoor #rockclimbing and could barely get far. I had zero #grip #strength and thought I was strong from doing #yoga. Ha! That was all in my head. I went back this weekend and it felt #great to not burn out from lack of upper body strength. Then, conquered my #fear of heights and had the strength to #climb to the #top! #success feels #fantastic and #change is good for everyone. We are on to week 3 of gearing up for #birdsofparadise so today, day 11, is 3 legged #dog. Move into #downwarddog and as you keep your shoulders and hips squared to the #mat you lift on leg. The lift isn't about how high you can go but rather lifting the leg while hips stay squared to the mat. #relax the heel of the leg on the earth and keep gaze to the toes or ankle. Working a #nice #stretch into the hamstring and #power of the hold for 5 deep #breaths. Then switch sides. Today I conquered my #fear of heights and made the choice to get to the #top. This was my second time #rockclimbing (indoor of course). My first time was horrible: my arms burned out, I got frustrated that it wasn't #easy for me, and I let #fear stop me from going to the top. Today I #believe I came with a different #attitude, I used my #yoga #breath and my #strengthtraining paid off. I'm not going to lie I got #scared and let the #panic take over a few times then I just went for it. This is Day 10 as we move towards #birdsofparadise #yogachallenge with #warrior #lunge or #anjanayasana. I chose this #pose for the #intense #stretch to the hip flexor and the hamstring. You can keep your hands on the earth, your thigh, or reach to the sky as a variation. #try to keep the weight forward in your front heel to keep pressure off the back knee. If your tight in hips and hamstrings you can sit in a block, take forearms to the thighs or hands to the thighs. Just lessen the squat. Here is week 2 day 2 #pose as we prep for #birdsofparadise in #lizard variation. This variation will get deeper into the hips, shoulders and hamstrings. All the parts of the #body that need to be awakened for this months #yogachallenge pose. Lunge forward with foot wide of hip, let hips drop forward and down, roll to the edge of front foot (keep toes pulling back towards the shin) then opposite arm out wide on the earth while other arm opens up and back. Hold for 5 deep breaths the switch to the other leg. As always, do what is #right for you and your body in this #moment.
