It has just been brought to our attention that yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of our triple j Like A Version of Matt Corby's 'Brother'! 5 years on and this song is still very much a staple of our live show. I don't know if we will ever stop performing it, and you know what, that's cool with us.
I remember being nervous about performing the song, because it was the first time that we really put our own vulnerabilities to the forefront. At the time, it felt like wearing your heart on your sleeve wasn't really the done thing in the Australian Hip Hop scene, and being born of that scene, it did feel like we were taking a risk.
The response to the tune was unfathomable for us. It propelled us from a little known band into the wider consciousness of the Australian music landscape. It proved to be so many Thundakats first point of contact with our music and we will forever be thankful to the J's for inviting us to perform.
Most importantly though, it reassured us that ironically, in showing your own vulnerabilities on a track, that search for an emotional connection with the listener is actually a massive strength. We learned so much from this song.
We would like to thank our bro Ev Jones for lending us his dulcet tones on this tune. For those who don't know, he and Thundas very own DJ Morgs are in a group together called @jonesjnr_ . Expect some very new tasty tunes coming your way from the boys, through our record label, High Depth.
We would also like to thank anyone who has ever hit play on 'Brother'. 2.7 milly hits and counting. Sheesh!! Hope you guys have a great Thursday evening.
Peace, Love and Light.
