This morning I read a thread about "R U OK?" Day (suicide & mental health awareness). Lots of whining about the inauthenticity of posting 'those cute little posters' without anyone ACTUALLY asking anyone if they are, in fact, ok. I asked 2 people and I got asked twice.

I am 99% jokester larakin except when it comes to suicide & mental health. As someone who's had very dark thoughts in the past, these seeds germinate and escalate FAST.

My husband used to think it was hilarious when I asked him seriously "R U OK?" I still ask him sporadically through the year. And he knows how sincerely I mean it.

I never want to be that wife/friend/mother left behind with "I had no idea what they were going through!

There needs to be more emphasis on surrounding yourself with people who allow you to be your authentic self.

My 'people' are as accepting of my gifts and encouragement as they are of my bad days & ugly crying. And trust me... I am THE ugliest crier! I'm talking snot bubbles, puffy face, red & white blotches - hugely attractive!
.

They've seen me from my powerlifting, disciplined best-self to an emotional basketball case, eating my feelings - and accept me unconditionally as both.
.

Not to mention my husband of nearly 16 years. My hot blonde surfer with a 6 pack, a successful businessman who adores his family. Doing life with him is fun and spontaneous but often daunting because he's so bloody good at everything he does 😩 But he doesn't see me as any less than him. He loves & supports me and backs me in everything I do.
.

These are the types of people to do life with. You shouldn't need to perform to be loved. You don't need to prove anything. You're you. And you deserve to be loved just as you are!
.

So πŸ›‘STOP πŸ›‘ making excuses for bad behaviour. You have a right to be unconditionally loved. Stay close to those people who are prepared do that.

1️⃣ I am not an island! 🏝 I actually have a supportive husband and divine friends who genuinely want to help me!
2️⃣ Bottling it up is only going to result in a snot/tear explosion akin to shaking a soda bottle πŸŒ‹
3️⃣ The closer I am to my goal the more fearful I become. Guess what? Fear is a LIAR!!
4️⃣ I have a lot to give. Just as soon as I quit the SELF DOUBT!
5️⃣ I am very, very, VERY hard on myself. .

SELF LOVE... is this just another way for us to fail?

It was soooo easy to love myself last year when I was at my strongest πŸ’ͺ🏼 My clothes all fit and looked great πŸ‘™ My physical and mental health were at their peak πŸ’–
.

Self love has collapsed during my 6 months of severe burnout when I couldn't get out of bed for 5 months. I felt useless as a wife, mum and friend. I ate my feelings. Put on 10kgs. I've had to buy new clothes. I've lost strength and my gut has more holes than an antique fishing net! I felt awful!
.

I'm not suggesting we don't strive for self love. But should we instead be going for 🌸 SELF ACCEPTANCE 🌺?
.

It might look something like this:
1️⃣ I accept that I am where I am. I've had burnout. I ate my feelings for 6 months. I've done damage to my physical health.
2️⃣ I accept that I am having to buy and wear bigger clothes.
3️⃣ I accept that I have put in a LOT of work in to get though burnout and I am now in a position where I can repair the damage
4️⃣ I accept that I am unconditionally loved by my tribe and all they want is for me to be healthy and happy.
5️⃣ I accept that I am ALREADY doing something about it!
6️⃣ I LOVE that I accept those things about where I'm at right now

Did you know (I have not yet nailed these)

1️⃣ A safe deadlift setup is you looking down (think how your spine is aligned in a safe plank) maintaining a neutral spine - NOT grabbing the bar while still looking at yourself in the mirror. This creates an unsafe position for your spine - especially considering the load!
2️⃣ Focusing on contracting your hip flexors allows you to get your butt back, gets tension in your hamstrings promoting an explosive deadlift
3️⃣ This lift is most efficient by only breaking the floor once the shoulders are in line with the bar. Not before. Not after. Take a big breath πŸ‘‰πŸΌ create that intra abdominal pressure πŸ‘‰πŸΌ activate your lats by pulling the bar into your shins πŸ‘‰πŸΌ contract your hip flexors forcing you to sit back πŸ‘‰πŸΌ this creates a natural lifting movement when you can't get your butt any further back so the only way is up ☝🏼
4️⃣ I'm no exercise scientist... but my coach is πŸ˜‰ (pssst he deadlifts 307.5kg at 82kg BW πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ) @theblaquemovement
