VIDEO: Shouts Of ‘Chardak’ Leveled At IDF Soldier Passing Near Beis Yisrael Shteiblach

In the accompanying video, taken on Wednesday morning, Rosh Chodesh Shevat, in the Beis Yisrael neighborhood of #Jerusalem, we see a lone #IDF soldier walking away from the camera, on the right side of the screen, targeted with shouts of ‘Chardak’ as he passed the shteiblach.

Military authorities have recently urged religious soldiers to report such incidents, vowing to come down on responsible individuals with the full weight of the law.

WARNING: Stifling Sneezes Can Be A Health Hazard
Tempted to stifle a loud or untimely sneeze? Let it out instead, doctors in England warned Monday based on the very unusual case of a man who ruptured the back of his throat when he tried to suppress a sneeze.

In a case study published in the journal BMJ Case Reports, doctors described their initial confusion when the previously healthy man turned up in the emergency room of a Leicester hospital, complaining of swallowing difficulties and “a popping sensation” in his swollen neck.

The 34-year-old patient told them his problems started after he tried to stop a forceful sneeze by pinching his nose and closing his mouth. He eventually lost his voice and spent a week in the hospital. .
“When you sneeze, air comes out of you at about 150 miles per hour,” said Dr. Anthony Aymat, director for ear, nose and throat services at London’s University Hospital Lewisham, who was not involved in the case. .
.
“If you retain all that pressure, it could do a lot of damage and you could end up like the Michelin Man with air trapped in your body.” .
.
While examining the sneeze-averse patient, doctors in Leicester heard “crackling in the neck” down to his ribcage, a sign that air bubbles had seeped into his chest. Worried about infection and other possible complications, they admitted him to the hospital, gave him a feeding tube and administered antibiotics, according to details published in BMJ Case Reports.

Dr. Zi Yang Jiang, a head and neck surgeon at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, said he sees one or two cases arising from repressed sneezes each year, making them an “exceedingly rare” occurrence.

Jiang said it was bizarre that a single sneeze could generate enough force to cause the kind of physical damage that usually results from trauma, such as a gunshot wound to the neck. A collapsed lung is among the problems that retaining the air from an imminent sneeze can cause, he said.

#Jewish community leaders joined Councilman Chaim Deutsch as he introduced newly elected New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. The meeting was hosted at the home of a close friend to Deutsch and Johnson, #Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition Chairman Josh Mehlman. The visit took place during Johnson’s first week as Speaker.

Speaking to more than a dozen leaders including Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel of Agudath Israel and Malcolm Hoenlein of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Councilman Deutsch spoke about the long-standing friendship he has shared with Speaker Johnson, and the many opportunities they had to work together during the last four years. In his first term, Johnson served as Health Committee Chairman, a role that aided him in assisting private summer camps, food establishments, and other institutions in the Jewish community. .
Deutsch also referenced a 2017 trip they took to Israel as part of a JCRC-New York City Council delegation. A son of Holocaust survivors, Deutsch noted Johnson’s sensitive reaction when visiting Yad Vashem. .
“I’ve been proud to call Speaker Corey Johnson a friend since our first day together in the City Council,” said Councilman Chaim Deutsch. “He has always demonstrated a deep respect for the Jewish community. .
Johnson emphasized his commitment to continue to keep the lines of communication open about issues that are important to the community. Johnson emphasized his unwavering support for the State of Israel, where he has visited three times, including once before he was an elected official.

Speaker Johnson has a well-developed relationship with many facets of New York’s Jewish community, including Rabbi Niederman of UJO Williamsburg, Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the Crown Heights JCC, and Rabbi Zweibel of Agudath Israel. Along with Councilman Deutsch, he plans to continue to meet with Jewish leadership across the five boroughs to better understand their priorities.

In Bnei Brak on Wednesday

WOAH! Oregon fishermen who jumped ship into bone-chilling water to dodge a speeding motorboat have filed a $372,500 lawsuit, alleging the other driver was distracted by his cellphone just before the dramatic crash caught on video.

Bryan Maess filed the suit against Marlin Lee Larsen, 75, over the crash near the mouth of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean, the Oregonian reports.

A GoPro camera mounted to Maess’ 20-foot fishing boat captured the chaos in the seconds before Larsen’s 31-foot motorboat crashes into the smaller, stationary vessel. A passenger on Maess’ boat frantically waves his arms and repeatedly screams “Hey!” in a desperate attempt to get the driver’s attention. “Oh my God,” another passenger screams just before the trio leap into the chilly water.

#Belgium has stepped in to help out the U.N. Agency assisting the #Palestinians with an immediate disbursement of $23 million after the #Trump administration suspended $65 million in aid for the international organization.

#Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said Wednesday that “for a lot of Palestinian refugees, the UNRWA is the last life buoy.” .

The AP claims that “among the group’s projects are helping half a million children get an education and fending off attempts to radicalize them”. .
.
De Croo said he was responding to a global fundraising appeal from UNRWA in hopes of making up for funding cuts announced by the United States. The 19 million euros is Belgium’s allocation for three years but because of the group’s immediate need, De Croo’s office said it will be “disbursed immediately.”

Israel: Teen Dies in Car Crash With Camel

A 13-year-old teenager was killed and four other people were badly injured on Tuesday evening after a two-car motor vehicle accident involving a wandering camel took place on Route 40 in the Negev. The accident occurred near the Nafha Prison on the Highway that bisects the Negev from north to south. Some of the injured passengers were trapped inside their vehicle for an elongated period of time before firefighters could extract them.

Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah EMS responders treated a 13-year-old boy at the scene of the collision. The boy’s condition was initially declared as being critical, however, paramedics at the scene were forced to declare his death.

In addition to the teenage boy, two other people in were in critical condition while another two were moderately injured. In order to evacuate the injured, two helicopters were flown in. Police are investigating the incident.

According to Or Yarok, an NGO whose mission is to combat fatal motor vehicle accidents in Israel, some 15 people were killed and 350 injured in car accidents involving animals that occurred over the last decade, many of which involved camels in the Negev.

Arutz Sheva reported that the Regavim movement together with MK Betzalel Smotrich (Jewish Home) submitted a draft of legislation known as the “Camel Law” in 2016. The law was intended to hold camel owners responsible for their animals and place a deterrent on letting camels wander by requiring the placement of identification microchips under the skin of each animal in a similar style to what is done in Israel with house pets. .
.
“Despite the fact that every year over 1,000 complaints of wandering camels are received by the authorities, the wheels of legislative process haven’t turned as quickly as necessary to fight this danger,” said a spokesperson for Regavim in a statement on Tuesday. “Once again, the carnage has returned to the roads of the Negev.”
