Back to back fantastic supper clubs this past weekend*!
🌟Ginger teriyaki seitan skewer
🌟Chilli sautéed lotus root & green beans
🌟Saitoimo: miso-ginger taro root
🌟Gobo kinpira: Burdock sesame stir fry
🌟Furofuki daikon: Simmered winter radish & yuzu miso
🌟Shiraae: sweet & salty tofu salad with carrots, spring onion & pickled winter chrysanthemum leaves with koji-pickled shimeji mushroom
🌟Takaragbukuro: Fried tofu treasure bag filled with okara (soybean pulp), kabocha pumpkin, hijiki seaweed & shiitake mushrooms

🍱 And that was just the first course! We had 3 more including vegan takoyaki, grilled aubergine miso soup, various pickles, and depending on the night: maccha cake & azuki gelato/ yuzu cake & black sesame gelato. Plus more!

🍽️In these beautiful vermillion boxes are fresh tofu yuzu dengaku that have been grilled over a traditional stone stove called a konro.

🌱The next dish was fresh delicate yuba (soymilk skin) with wakame, ginger and spring onion, served with a soy dipping sauce (ask for no katsuo fish dashi).

🌏These dishes are from the famous tofu restaurant Wakaya in Iga City, Mie Prefecture. Iga is east of Kyoto and well known for their organic farms- as well as being home of the ninja and haiku poet Basho!

(I know Autumn is long gone but I love the warming colors of this lotus root dumpling in soup🍁).
PS: The green stuff is called "yuzu kosho" and is a spicy chilli pepper paste with a pop of yuzu citrus. It's incredible!!!! I brought some back for supper clubs, but you should be able to find it in Japanese specialty stores like Atari-ya in London. YUM

This year you really liked Japanese food, the Washoku World Challenge and noodles! But your heart is really for those mini maccha pancakes. I don't blame ya! 💚🍵🍩
I've gone through a lot the past 2 years. Death, PTSD, depression, anxiety, counselling, unwanted weight, etc. And to balance that I've also made lots and lots of new friends, made huge career progressions, became an aunt, and feel more satisfied and grateful.
🙇Thank you thank you thank you for all of your support and helping my dream to share vegan and Japanese food! ☄️Most importantly, I'm so happy to know every single meal I serve is going towards a future with less suffering. Every meal is without animal suffering. Each one a smaller environmental footprint, yet a step towards a longer healthier life.

Food stuff I've been doing in Japan! Part 1: Eating
1. Otera House shojin lunch. Kyoto
2. Vegetable Bar Aju's yakitori. Osaka @vegebar_aju
3. Shigetsu's ramen. Osaka
4. Typical shojin lunch in Koya-san
5 6 7. Dinner & Breakfast at a chef's house in Iga.
8. Yuzu cauliflower udon with another Iga chef
9. Blown away by a Natural & Organic Market that also has vegan options in my small old home of Aoyama/Nabari. Including this salted soy latte & waffle by @nekkocafe
10. Train snacks. Gingerbread soy latte and my go to Kombu onigiri.

Some shots from the Japanese Pop Up! Starting with dessert:
Gelato trio: black sesame with sesame brittle, azuki bean with sweetened azuki beans, murasaki purple potato with candied Asian sweet potato. All creamy gelatos created just for this event by @prime_gelato_london.
Yukari & corn onigiri, Autumn rice, inari & shimeji nigiri with pickles and miso soup of pumpkin and turnip.
Ginger teriyaki seitan skewers on turnip greens, miso taro and sesame seaweed salad.
Simmered daikon, koyadofu chilli garlic pickled shiitake, burdock root stir fry.
