Sacking Pinnick won't solve Nigeria's football problem - Kpakor
.
.

Ex-international, Moses Kpakor says the decision of the Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung to use the Federal powers to remove Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick isn't an end to the nation's football problems.
In the statement issued in July, the Sports ministry directed the Nigeria Football Federation, a parastatal under it, to comply with a court order setting aside the election into the Executive Committee of the NFF held on September 30, 2014.
.
.

Mr Dalung said the directive followed a written notification signed for the Attorney-General of the Federation requesting the sports ministry to ensure compliance. However, Kpakor told Soccernet.ng that such actions would only bring more crisis to the nation's football rather than reshaping it for good.
.
. "I am not particularly happy with the latest development going on in Nigeria's Football between the Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick and the Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung," Kpakor told news men "Besides, I see no reason why Pinnick should be sacked from his position when we know that the NFF Election will come up very soon (August) I believe.
.
. "The truth is that the current crisis will turn FIFA's attention on Nigeria and that may attract another sanction for our football. “It is high time we learn to maintain stability in the control of our football irrespective of who is in the position. A crisis like this will only take our football backwards rather than forward."

Police deny assassination attempt on Dino Melaye, asks him to report
.
.

The Kogi State Police Command has denied report by Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi west district at the National Assembly, Thursday, that unknown gunmen in uniform (police,SARS and military) fired gun shots at the vehicle just as its asked the Senator and the people in his convoy to report to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Lokoja.
.
.

Senator Dino Melaye had tweeted that he thanked God for sparing his life once again as over 20 bullets holes were on his jeep and alleging that a combination of police, SARS and military were the one responsible for the bullets holes.
.
.

@dino_melaye
I thank God for spearing my life once again. O 20 bullets holes on my jeep. Combination of police,SARS and military. God i thank you. .
.

But the Kogi State Police Command in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, DSP William Ovye Aya, said that it was saddening that Senator Dino could turn around the issue misleading and covering up the heinous crime committed by his hired aides who launched a lethal attack on police officers in the course of their normal duty.
.
.

Putting the records straight the Kogi Police said that on ‘Thursday at about 1530hours, a team of policemen from the Command was on a routine Anti – Robbery/Kidnapping patrol along Aiyetoro Gbede – Mopa Road and during the patrol, and as it is often the practice, the team pinned down at a point at Iyah Gbede Junction, where they were observing the highway and occasionally conducting Stop and Search.

2019: I’ll complete all projects before handing over — AJIMOBI
.
.

GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, yesterday, reiterated his administration’s commitment and determination to ensuring that all projects embarked on by his government were completed before leaving the office in 2019.
.
.

The governor said this while speaking with the news after his inspection visit to the amended proposed prototype Paediatrics and Maternity Centre, Jericho, Ibadan, under construction by the state government. Ajimobi said: “I am not a lazy governor, who will sit and relax doing nothing just because the tenure remains one year. I was elected as governor to serve for eight years and not for seven years and I will work till the end of my tenure.”
.
.

He, however, hinted that the Paediatrics/Maternity Center would be completed within six months alongside other projects embarked on by the state government.
He said: “We believe we should have an integrated health service delivery centre where we can give a Tuberculosis Centre, Maternal and Paediatrics Centre. We want to make this another UCH where everything will be integrated.”

How Buhari’s appointments engendered rowdy session at Senate .
.

THE Senate, yesterday, witnessed a rowdy session, following complaints of alleged lopsided appointments into federal boards and parastatals by President Muhammadu Buhari.
For more than half an hour, the hallowed chamber was stormy over alleged bias by President Buhari in his federal appointments, just as he was accused of being biased in favour of northerners, particularly Katsina State, his home state.
With the shouting session, it became very clear that there was sharp division between the Southern and Northern senators.
.
.

Talks in the chamber from some northern senators were that Buhari had been fair to all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe and religion.
Subsequently, the Senate mandated its Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs, led by Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura (APC, Zamfara North), to probe all appointments of the President as well as establish the alleged lopsidedness.
.
.

The committee, which was asked to carry out a holistic investigation into the appointments, taking into cognisance, adherence to federal character principle, rule of law, among others, will submit its report on Tuesday at plenary.
Trouble started when Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, who presided, read a letter from President Buhari, asking the Senate to screen and confirm appointments into the board of the Federal Roads
.
. Maintenance Agency, FERMA.
In the letter, which was read on the floor of the Senate by Saraki, President Buhari asked the Senate to confirm former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Tunde Lemo, as chairman of FERMA; Nurudeen Abdulrahman Rafindafi as Managing Director; Buba Silas Abdullahi; Babangana Mohammed Aji; Shehu Usman Abdullahi; Loretta Ngozichukwu Aniagolu; Mujaidu Stanley Dako and Vincent Oladapo Kolawale as executive directors.

Rohr can look beyond Mikel's availability for 2019 AFCON qualifiers - Nwosu
.
.

Ex-international, Henry Nwosu has challenged the technical crew of the Super Eagles headed by Gernot Rohr not to force team's captain, Mikel Obi to play for Nigeria once the qualifiers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations begins if he feels he needs time to rest. Mikel, who was part of the Super Eagles squad that crashed out in the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has initially hinted on contemplating whether to play on for the senior national team till AFCON 2019 in Cameroon.
.
.

However, Nwosu told news men that Mikel's availability or absence shouldn't create any kind of debate in the team ahead of the 2019 AFCON Qualifiers. "I want the technical crew of the Super Eagles to prosecute the 2019 AFCON qualifiers with or without Mikel Obi in the team," Nwosu told news men.
.
. "Yes, he is one of Nigeria's most potent midfielders and has shown great commitment in the course of playing for the senior national team. However, if he decides not to be part of the squad that will prosecute the qualifiers or participate at the Nation's Cup, I don't think it will be ideal to force him to play for us.
"There is no doubt that Mikel is still an important figure in the Super Eagles, but then, the technical crew must start looking for another player who can fit into his shoes before 2019."

More Trouble: Speaker Dogara May Quit APC .
.

L atest report as Hon. Umar Nana, the Bauchi State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted allegation that the party in the state is averse to the continued stay of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, within its fold.
Alhaji Nana made the clarification yesterday in Abuja at the APC national secretariat.
.
.

He said that it is not the practice of the party to chase away its members, adding however that any member of the APC family, who desires to leave, is not under compulsion to remain in the party. According to him, it is the desire of the party to keep its members pointing out, however, that it is not in the interest of the party to keep members that will cause disaffection within its fold.
.
.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District Comrade Shehu Sani has refuted his reported defection to another party, saying he is still a member of the APC. He, however, said his group is still discussing with various groups including the APC and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, saying that their destination would become clearer in the days to come.
