Squats! Did you know that the best position to facilitate childbirth is squatting? This allows gravity to help with pushing and better head engagement with the Pelvic floor. Giving birth is like a marathon and you wouldn't compete in that unprepared! So let's start strengthening those legs ladies! Puppies! 🐶 Man's best friend! And a Woman's best friend! Most specifically during pregnancy! These little furry faces pile on the guilt if I don't take them out for a hike and their 30 mins + walk counts towards that physical activity goal during pregnancy of 30 mins of activity most days. 🌟 Top tip! 🌟Wanting to do exercises on your back but you are past the first trimester and these exercises make you feel uncomfortable? Tilt the step and crack on! The reason you feel uncomfortable on your back is due to gravity pushing the baby's weight onto your vena cava. Your vena cava are two large blood vessels which pump blood back to your heart from different parts of the body (superior vena cava conveys blood from the upper extremities and inferior vena cava supplies blood from all parts below the diaphragm). By doing these exercises with your head tilted up reduces the gravity affect which is squashing your blood vessels and allows the blood to flow more freely. So now you can go back to those chest presses feeling much better! If I had a pound/dollar for every time I have said as a physio "to listen to your body" I would be a millionaire! It is just as important to realise which days to take it easy as it is to keep active. Especially during pregnancy! It is something that I too am learning in this pregnancy journey but after feeling exhausted most of the day, out of breath going up the stairs and needing a break after a grocery shop I decided my planned run today is not realistic! So I am putting my feet up, having a good ol' cuppa and resting. Is this you today too? Don't feel bad!
