We’ve made the most of what we had to work with outside the last few years, but this year we’re overhauling the backyard and things are changing in big ways! I’m going to share the start of the deck makeover this week on the blog, but I want to help you give your favorite outdoor space a little makeover with some furniture from my partner, @arhaus! Head to the last post in my feed to enter. The giveaway closes at the end of the night. #goodluck #giveaway #outdoorentertaining #poolside

I clearly love color in my interiors, but you might be surprised to know I prefer a really neutral palette outside. Give me all the whites and creams! We are in #exterioroverhaul mode this month, and I’m giving an update on the first thing checked off our to-do list on the blog tonight. Link in profile. #library #bookshelves #shelfie

As I was “storying” in here tonight, I remembered it’s been three years since we finished the space. Other than the candlesticks it’s all the same stuff. Slow, thoughtful design has that effect. And to continue the discussion in my stories, this is a rug I would probably never be able to snag today. #diningroom #darkwalls #blackwalls

It’s been a year since we completed our master refresh. Hopefully in the next year we’ll update the bones of this space, but paint and new furnishings made such a huge impact. Good design stands the test of time, and I still love everything about this place I get to wake up in and lay my head down at night. You can see the whole reveal and the before in the link in my profile. Do you love your bedroom? #masterbedroom #bedroommakeover

I know most of you are here for design, but weekly I’m asked about my hair. There’s a tutorial in my stories about how I do it if you’re interested! It’s very no fuss, low-maintenance! Photo by @justinsalemmeyer #hairtutorial #livingroom http://liketk.it/2vlsD #liketkit @liketoknow.it

Personality doesn’t have to mean loads of color and pattern. Personality is found in the details, and the details can be calm yet meaningful. In Craig and Laura’s garage we installed two shelves over the buffet for things to be displayed and stored. From the painting of Laura’s mother to the sketch of the Harry Truman home (just down the street), the art is very personal. Even the sconces, @rejuvenation’s Carlton, are designed from the era their house was built in. Thoughtful selections make great design. More on the blog. When I walk into a room I want to feel something. I love when spaces evoke emotions, and rooms in our house can have you feeling passionate and moody in one, light and refreshed in another. #livingroom #avantrevivalists

It’s been a while since I’ve shared any updates about the state of the wood room on the blog, so tonight I’m dishing what’s come into the room and what’s still needed. We lived without a rug for about a month (such a weird feeling) and bringing this beauty in from our partner @annieselke was definitely a game changer. When you’re trying to create a clean, calming environment that still feels inviting, texture is important. Craig and Laura had a concrete floor poured in their garage turned workstead and brought in the Marled Indigo cotton rug from our partner @annieselke to be warm underfoot while adding quiet interest. Layering is key when you’re going monochromatic! #workstead #office #homeoffice #garagemakeover 📷 @larkphotos

It’s that time of year when I start willing spring to show up and stay...boycotting the cold in open-toed shoes and colors that evoke warmth and sunshine. Now, if Mother Nature would simply cooperate! Has spring sprung in your neck of the woods? The best style is usually personal and takes time. This mantle has always been a favorite, but the most special pieces have been added over the last year. The Avon domino bottle, the picture of my great grandpa, and today I got a surprise delivery that puts the cherry on top: that black and white ribbon art. @angelachrusciakiblehm, your gifts are many and your heart is gold!
