Thank you @sefiracreative for including me in your illustration project of women who wrap! ❤️🙏😊 You are so talented! #GirlBosses #ShesAnArtist #TheLittleTichelLady “Today is day 12 of my 100 day project!
Presenting Jessica Golriz Hyam! Many of you may know her by the name of her tichel - scarf - store called The Little Tichel Lady which sells gorgeous scarves of all shapes and sizes. Personally, I've been stalking her Instagram page for quite a while. Nothing excites me more than to see a brave woman conquer the world with her dreams of fashion and scarves for all.
I had a stigma growing up, that the mitzvah - commandment - of hair covering was ugly and plain.
But that's simply not true.
It's not our narrative.
Here are some questions I asked her:
What's your favorite color? "I literally don't have a favorite color. I think every color is beautiful and BH (thank G-d) we have an amazing Creator that gave us such beauty in the world to appreciate." What's your favorite food? "Hmm..Girl.. I love food, any good food." (um hecks yes, I agree to that)
Why do you choose to cover your hair with a scarf?
"I believe that everyone has their way to connect with Hashem (G-d) and their own path. I always knew since becoming religious that I would cover my hair with wraps, rather than sheitals (wigs). Wearing wraps is a way that I express my individuality, as a way to honor the mitzvah (commandment) to Hashem (G-d), to my husband, and to be true to myself. Life is short, just gotta be real!” “
