Be Better Today (why I love Martin Luther King🙏)

So when you read that phrase, “Be Better Today”, the initial thought might be, “ok, I will make myself better for myself.” But that’s not how I want you to see it.
-
I want you to see it as, “I will make myself better for others.” We are really good at letting ourselves down. We are really really good at it. We can find every reason imaginable for justifying why it’s ok. Trust me, I’m the master of it.

But everything changed when I was introduced to the term “Servant Leader.” Someone earns this title when they no longer get better just for themselves. The use every moment to become a better version of themselves so they can share it with the world. They see that the more they evolve in all aspects of their lives, they can be better serve others. They see it as an obligation to the world.

They cherish every single moment. They are so hungry to learn. They have an abundance mentality. They want to grow the pie instead of taking a bigger slice. They are motivated by legacy. They are motivated about making a difference. They are motivated not by what somebody says to their face but by what someone says behind their back. They are motivated by their eulogy. They want to live a life that, no matter who said their eulogy, whether they knew them their whole life or only met them once, it would always sound the same. It would talk about how much the world is a better place because of them. They would be remembered for all the people they helped. They would be remembered for being a “servant leader.” They lived a life worth fighting for.

I am fascinated by Martin Luther King’s story. He didn’t have social media to spread his message. Every single media outlet tried to suppress his message…. But they couldn’t… Why? Because he was servant leader. He was someone worth fighting for. His mission was much bigger than himself. He saw the value in every single person no matter their color. He wanted to make change that would live long past his years.

So on August 28, 1963 when Martin Luther King made his way to the Nation’s Capital, he had no idea if anyone would show up.

My Brothers For Life

FDL’s 1st event last night was an amazing success! A room full of amazing people, all with unique stories that were each equally special. We raised over $500 for local orphanages to get these less fortunate Kids Christmas gifts! And FDL will be matching that number. So we will be able to use over $1000 to give these Kids the Christmas they deserve. I’m blown away...

And you see these two guys in this picture with me. None of this would be possible without them. And I mean not just this event. I mean all of this. I mean FDL as a whole. I mean the person I am today. It is a direct representation of these two guys.

As I’m writing this, I think about how alone I was before them. I was so alone. But I knew that I would rather be alone than allow people into my life who didn’t appreciate me. I waited. I trusted my gut. I knew I would eventually attract the right people. I knew I would eventually attract my brothers. Not only my brothers but my brothers for life.

They have my back no matter what. I know at times we want to kill each other. But we know unconditionally that we all love each other. These two will be in my wedding. They will stand by my side not only in my wedding as I’m watching my beautiful wife walk down that aisle. They will pat me on the back telling me how happy they are for me. They will wipe off the tears coming down my face. They will hand me the ring. They will smile. Why? Because I know they love me and it’s the best feeling in the world.

So if you are reading this post and you have yet to find that inner circle in your life, know that you are not alone. Trust me, I know that feeling. But please do not give up. You will have so many times when you want to. But please don’t give in. You are so special and you deserve people around you that think this as well. Just keep making yourself better every single moment of every day. Walk into a room and know that the room is better because you are in it. Always provide value in every moment you can. Do the good at all times. I promise you will attract the right people in your life.
