Ab check! I’m doing the @hasslefreebbc with @meechster @kevlarskimmer and @mendoza_corey this Saturday at Abraham Lincoln high school! We are going to try and qualify for the AO3 in VIVA LAAAAAS VEGAS🎼! Pretty stoked to watch my boys lift again, it sure has been a while.

I myself haven’t really lifted in about three months. I’ve dabbled in some light snatches and clean and jerks here and there but have mostly been doing conditioning.

Goal for this weekend is just to qualify! No big numbers for me! I hurt my shoulder/rotator cuff a few months ago snowboarding 🏂 and it put me out of lifting for a minute! On Monday I go in to see an orthopedic doctor and hopefully can get an MRI to see what’s going on in there!

157kg Snatch by 2018 Pan American Champion @weskitts22 🇺🇸 This weight represents Wes’s final warm up attempt before opening at 165kg. This video (swipe right) was taken before heading down to the Pan Am Championships and represents roughly 88% of his 1RM #Snatch.

When we see more than 4 degrees of horizontal displacement (the distance that the bar travels away from the body) the chances of making a successful attempt drop significantly. Two things are likely to happen, either the bar loops causing us to miss the lift behind or the bar doesn’t achieve the height and momentum required to pull ourselves underneath, which causes the bar to fall in front.

To maintain a bar path that is close to the body consider the following:
-
1️⃣ Assign tension properly: The easiest way to do this is to pull our lats down and towards the glutes. Imagine that we are bending the bar around the shins as we work to push the platform away from us with the middle of the foot.

2️⃣ Ensure that the momentum of bar works up and back towards the body as the plates break from the floor.
-
3️⃣ Bring our shoulders as far in advance of the bar as possible, as the bar is lifted above the knee.

4️⃣ Be mindful of where our weight resides on the foot throughout the pull. Our weight starts over the middle of the foot, works back towards the ankle as the bar passes the knee and returns to the middle of the foot as the power position develops.
