As a survivor myself, I want to thank @FaceForwardLA from the bottom of my heart for supporting those victimized by extreme violence. -
I have spent nearly a decade fighting to protect and restore the innocence stolen by sexualized violence. Only recently while undergoing a remarkably powerful PTSD treatment called EMDR have even more memories surfaced which had been blocked away in my brain for 23 years.
My fight to save small children from ever experiencing the lifelong torment of childhood sexual abuse has been the driving force in my life. And, after all of these years... I finally know why. I needed this fight. I needed to see that I was NOT the worthless object I have always believed I was due to being constantly used and discarded for years when I was only a small child. I needed to know that I had any worth... at all. -
Joining the fight to end human-trafficking and modern day slavery has allowed me to feel that my story is worth something; that ...I... am worth something. It only takes a moment to destroy a life. It can take decades to rebuild one’s life after being violated, abused or used as nothing more than another’s desire to render one powerless in order to feel powerful, to feel in control. -
So, after a lifetime of heartbreak it is with deep gratitude to have the opportunity to meet those who spend their lives NOT hurting because they’ve been hurt but breaking the cycle and choosing to make their individual stories count by adding value to another’s. -
I am humbled by you @alessiinstitute #DrDaveAlessi and @deborah.alessi for your tireless efforts to provide the first step towards healing the self-worth of so many survivors around the world. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
