Ross Ice Shelf Programme  Welcome to the NZARI Aotearoa New Zealand Ross Ice Shelf Programme: Join us in Antarctica as we share our science. Email us

#otagouni enjoying a morning walk before the start of #polar2018 meetings in Davos, Switzerland. We’re looking forward to presenting our Antarctic research this week.

Entirely vegetarian and vegan dinner at Women You Can Bank On. Here as a guest of Tourism New Zealand in #dunedinnz #wycbo

Great night at Women You Can Bank On in Dunedin. #wycbo

Just started our first all team #rossiceshelf workshop. Craig is discussing his ocean temperature and salinity profiles from under the ice shelf. #niwa

Okay, this isn’t Antarctic at all. It’s Takahē! The new chick in the #orokonui family is the less colourful one on the left. It’s three months old and the whole family (parents and older sister) have been taking care of it. #dunedinnz #orokonuiecosanctuary #endangeredspecies

Ross ice shelf programme scientist Christian, Gavin and Richard visited the Chinese Ice breaker Xue Long (snow dragon) as it passed through port Lyttelton, Christchurch. #red #icebreaker #christchurch

The underside of the ice shelf was coated by a thin layer of new #crystals at our site (at least when we were there). The dark underneath is ocean water and the bright flashes right at the base of the ice are the faces of crystals. This image was captured by Craig and Mike, #niwa oceanographers. #rossiceshelf #antarctica

Craig had a great conversation with Bryan Crump on #rnz Nights last week. You can hear it online

A very fast walking #tour of #Scottbase starting in a bunk room and ending with a view across McMurdo Sound.

Seismic sounding of the ice was the last of our scientific activities at the hot water drilling camp. The team set up very sensitive instruments, like the borehole-deployed #seismometer being levelled by Martin and Dan in this picture, and needed quiet conditions (no camp generators running) for their work. #rossiceshelf
