Little Tomasz was born in January this year with a congenital heart defect - Transposition of the Great Arteries
When he was just 16 days old, he underwent a life saving ‘arterial switch’ operation – a procedure pioneered by BHF Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub.
Tomasz has since recovered well and was allowed to go home at seven and a half weeks old.
His mum, Sophie, said: “We cannot begin to describe the joy we felt walking through the front door as a family that day. Tomasz is now a strong, healthy nine month old. He shows his gratitude to the team who saved him on a daily basis, by living life with a big smile on his face.”

Do you know the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest?
Please share this post to raise awareness on #RestartAHeart Day.

When the stakes are this high, don’t think twice, just try.

It’s simple. Call 999 and start CPR. You could save a life.

Little Alba was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries and has already undergone two heart operations in her short life.

She has since gone on to make a good recovery and is looking forward to celebrating her first birthday very soon!

Alba’s mum, Alejandra said: “Alba is absolutely thriving. She is the happiest baby, who loves playing, eating and is the ultimate chatterbox. She is a true inspiration to her family and the definition of warrior!”

This October thousands of women are taking on our #WomenRunTheWorld challenge, with the aim of collectively running the circumference of the world in a month!
We’re all about the running, but we’re also all about the food that helps keep people going.
This mouth-watering breakfast comes from @milesbeforebreakfast – an example of what she loves to eat before heading out on a run.
What’s your go-to running fuel?

On #AdaLovelaceDay we’re celebrating the inspirational female scientists that you help us fund.
Scientists like Dr Andriana Margariti who is working with stem cells hoping to make discoveries that could lead to new treatments for heart failure and other diseases.
She is particularly interested in investigating the exciting potential of stem cells to regenerate the damaged heart and blood vessels.

On Friday we rolled out the red carpet for a night of celebration at our Heart Hero Awards, held in the vaults of the Globe Theatre in London!

Our special guests included dedicated healthcare professionals, children battling life-threatening conditions, heart surgery survivors, people who have displayed awe-inspiring courage by administering CPR and those who have raised huge amounts of money for the BHF’s life saving research.

Fourteen special awards were given to heart heroes who have gone the extra mile in support of our work.

We were also joined by a host of famous faces including football legend David Seaman, pop icon Shakin’ Stevens, TV doctor Dr Hilary Jones, star of the Inbetweeners Alex Macqueen, and Love Island Contestant Alexandra Cane!

This special evening gave us the chance to say thank you, and it was certainly a night to remember!

What a day! Thank you to all of our amazing #BHFChampions who took on our Blenheim Palace running events today! From a half marathon to a 10k and fun run, it was a great day out for all the family!

Kerry Ryan-Moorhouse has worked at the BHF for more than 11 years and has a very special connection to our cause.
Kerry’s daughter, Willow, was born with a ventricular septal defect and patent foramen ovale – two types of hole in her heart. “Without what we do at the BHF, my daughter’s story may have had a very different ending, and we are eternally grateful to the surgeon and the nursing team for what they did for Willow.” People have many different reasons for working with, or supporting us. On World Heart Day, we’d love to hear why the BHF is close to your heart.
