This is probably my all time favorite isolation move for the glutes. Lying on a bench in the smith machine takes the rest of the body out of the movement, and allows you to focus on using only the glutes. Keep the movement slow and controlled and the range of motion short so that constant tension is on the glutes. Be sure that the weight of the bar is under your heels. Here is another method of training to try with any exercise. Instead of doing a drop set, try doing the opposite and INCREASE the weight, rather than dropping it. Start out with a light weight, doing 10 reps, then increase the weight as you go, doing as many reps as you can the last two sets. The last set should be heavy and you will most likely not get out as many reps.

Friday feels.....I always try to be the motivator, and I almost always have motivation. Yesterday was one day I did not. I’m human and this happens to the best of us. I may have not been motivated but I was determined. I had to look around the gym for motivation, I had to believe in myself not give up on myself. I tend to be an “all or nothing” type of person... black or white. But that doesn’t always work. Yesterday I proved that to myself. Sometimes there has to be an in between. What matters most is that you do not give up. One foot in front of the other all the time. The best cheerleader you will ever have is YOU....so don’t beat yourself up but don’t let yourself down either. Keep speaking to yourself and reminding yourself “YOU GOT THIS!” Happy Friday everyone.

There are so many more ways to work on your core strength and challenge yourself besides the traditional plank. Every time you change up the way you do an exercise, you will target different muscles. Grab an exercise ball and give this move, that will target your entire midsection, a try. Aim for 10 reps on each leg for a total of 3 sets.

Leg day super set using the rope at the cables. First do a squat, holding the rope in front of you at chest level. Then go right into a stiff leg deadlift. Do four sets of each aiming for 15 reps each set. Focus on keeping your back straight, core tight and making sure your heels are planted in both moves. Form is very important, as always!

Here is a “reverse grip” super set for shoulders and a tip to help keep your form in check. Left clip is a reverse grip front raise, followed by a reverse grip press, in the right clip. Standing with your back against a wall, a pole or anything else sturdy will keep you from swinging your body or using any momentum. This will make the move harder. Note.... on the front raise do not go above parallel and on the press do not go below parallel.
