#MeetOurMakers In the work of Van de Ven, colours and shapes aim to lure and seduce the viewer. They draw one’s attention which leads to a confrontation with the content that will be different for everyone. Luxuria or lust can be found anywhere: sweet lips, blue skies or warm yellow sunshine. Ask yourself: How often did you meet luxuria today? [Luxuria ‘99 is now on view in the exhibition Spectrum of Time at @priveekollektie_gallery] #luxuria99 #lust #rug #3d #seduce #catharinavandeven #textielmuseum #museum #design #rugdesign #artist #instaart #tilburg @catharinavandeven

#MeetOurMakers The project Luxuria contains various (3D printed) objects carried out in materials such as aluminium and Perspex. As a designer/sculptor Van de Ven has a unbridled lust for various materials: ‘Lust instils an intense craving for satisfaction. Distinct from actual needs, it propels a potent hunger that can take any shape or form. Without lust, life would not exist or would not be worth living. But where do you draw the line? On which side do you place luxuria: Sin or Virtue? Colour and shape possess a deep power of attraction; they have a direct influence on our brain and inflict lust’. #lust #luxuria #rug #3d #art #instaart #textielmuseum #tufting #design #designer #catharinavandeven @catharinavandeven

#MeetOurMakers Designer @catharinavandeven started working on her project ‘Luxuria 99’ in the TextielLab in January this year. She used tufting as a technique for her rug. During this technique machines use a pneumatic force to press a U-shaped piece of yarn through a backing fabric. The height of the pile is altered by cutting the yarn shorter or leaving it longer. #rug #art #tufting #artist #artistsoninstagram #dutch #tilburg #luxuria #catharinavandeven

In her work artist Jacky van Dessel frequently employs unusual materials such as sand, peat dust or mud. This yellow sculpture is an older work, made of flocked polyamide and wood, and is now on view in the exhibition Colour & Abstraction until march 3. #sculpture #art #3d #somethingold #dutch #yellow #instaart #sand #dust #mud #wood #artistsoninstagram #igers #jackyvandessel

Van Dessel (1956) who studied at the Academy for Visual Arts in Tilburg is part of the artists collective Hollands Welvaren (Dutch Prosperity). Analysing and the exploration of materials is an important part of her creative process. #colour #abstraction #dutch #cheese #sculpture #textielmuseum #abstractart #3d #somethingold #somethingnew #yellow #tilburg #artist #artistsoninstagram

Did someone say cheese? 🧀This three-dimensional form, with its bulb-shaped hollows, resembles a piece of bent Swiss cheese. The title of this work by Jacky van Dessel is “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” (1992-1993) and refers to the four good-luck objects a bride should include somewhere in her wedding outfit. Why do you think van Dessel chose this title? #art #sculpture #abstractart #3d #somethingold #somethingnew #yellow #cheese #wedding #jackyvandessel #museum #museumlover

In 1936 Alvar Aalto began to design glassware. This well-known, undulating Savoy Vase was designed by him for the company @iittala. The vase has since then been Iittala’s most iconic piece. Aalto took inspiration from the dress of a Sami woman, called Eskimåkvinnans skinnbyxa (Eskimo woman’s leather breech). Did you know that Alvar Aalto admired different cultures? Via this way Aalto could merge the inspiration into his own work.

In the mid-1950s, Artek released ‘Siena’, a fabric based on geometric patterns designed by Alvar Aalto and his second wife Elissa Aalto. Aalto was fascinated by the Italian city and its cathedral on Piazza del Duomo in particular. What is your most favourite Scandinavian pattern? Let us know by leaving a comment!

Architect and designer Alvar Aalto attracted attention in the 1930s for his organic interpretation of the Bauhaus aesthetic. Together with his first wife Aino Aalto and partners, he founded Artek in 1933. The company still produces designs, such as this ‘901 tea trolley’. During their many travels, he and Aino got inspired by British tea culture. Also, Japanese woodwork and architecture had a great influence on him when designing this trolley.
