TIMOTHY’S STORY “Timothy started drinking at the age of 18, and as he grew older he started using marijuana and drinking heavily. He started to dabble with prescription pills when he was in medical school as he studied emergency medicine. He ended up having a weightlifting injury that damaged his lower back, escalating his addiction and driving him further into opioid usage. This injury was the tipping point that led to a natural progression from the Vicodin that was prescribed for his back pain to relentlessly seeking out the streets for heroin.
A year later he was kicked out of medical school and was in and out of jail multiple times. He had finally arrived at the end of the rope with no job, no money, no friends, and stuck in a motel room trying to end his own life.
Timothy did not die that night, but as he sat in a corner with a dense fog of disillusionment and despair, he realized that he needed to change his life. He felt that he didn’t deserve a second chance at life and this dark path he was on was most likely the end of his journey. But God had a different plan. ‘When I was at my darkest point in life, Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge provided me with a life-changing opportunity,’ said Timothy.
Through this process of healing and restoration, Timothy walked out of Pennsylvania Adult and Teen Challenge a new person. He feels accomplished that the steps of faith he took last year to go into the addiction program has been a wonderful life-changing transformation that God continues to do in his life. ’Although I don’t understand why God allows things in our lives, I do know that the ripple effects of our life transformation is endless. The amount of people touched and affected by God’s beautiful miracles in my life is amazing and I can’t wait for what my new future has for me,’ said Timothy.
Timothy plans to get his physical training license and go back to grad school to get a degree in counseling. His passion for caring and helping people is evident in all that he does and his intentional kindness will make a difference in this world.” Philippians 4:13
