Happy Mothers of Invention Day!
My very good friend @leesmillard nominated me to give my top ten music list, so I decided to lean it left of center towards the esoteric/eccentric/unconventional/creative. That’s what I prefer and recommend to stir/shake/liven it up.
The very groovy eccentric @frankfosterpost posted this today as Mother’s Day greeting, which is appropriately brilliant.
I saw Dweezil Zappa play his father Frank’s music, with Frank Foster Post, @lcgdesign and @zuzia_kitcho at @ftcpresents in 2016. FFP gave us much background on the astounding Zappa. Also this was the first time I met FFP.
Dweezil introduced “Brain Police” by reminding the crowd that this song came out in 1966, and asked to imagine a kid hearing the opening riff, which he played, then went into the song. It was flooring to see such a formidable and fluent band playing Frank Zappa, lead by his son in great tribute, and education on the music. Most impressive was for how playful and whimsical the music was, and is, there’s such sophistication and complexity to the composition.
A year later we saw Zappa play Zappa again live, with my remarkably talented and knowledgeable musician friends @dougsmithbass and @ronstabinsky joining us. Doug and Ron discussed the nuances and merit of the music afterwards, with Doug stating it’s the best concert he’s ever seen. That’s somethin’.
I still have to post my drawings from it.
