Fitness Tip Tuesday

*Secondary Assistance and Support on Lifts & Neuromuscular Activation (Powerlifting, Bodybuilding and General Fitness)*

Use wrist wraps for pressing exercises (such as shoulder and bench presses) and wrist straps for pulling exercises (especially cable back rows and pull ups).

For wrist straps, the number one benefit of using straps is that they allow you to DIRECTLY FATIGUE AND STRENGTHEN THE TARGET MUSCLE without worrying about your grip failing first. This is in done in accordance with the rule that you lift with your target objective in mind in just about everything you do in the weight room.

For wrist wraps, these are the benefits you get from adding them in to help you. Number one, they allow you to TRAIN HARDER; effective wrist wraps allow you to get more from your workouts. Next, the allow you to LIFT HEAVIER; lifting heavier weights is easier with wrist wraps. Thirdly, they SUPPORT YOUR WRISTS on pressing movements; get the support that you need during lifts that need maximum effort. And lastly, they aid in REDUCING forearm MUSCLE STRAIN.

*Supplementation: Importance of Minerals Working Synergistically with Your Vitamins*

Before added any supplement to your regimen, research and find out the effective daily dosages and also importantly the other things it works well with and not so good with too. Minerals and vitamins all work together and here are some quick tips on a few of them.

Iron & Vitamin C (plus Rose Hips) -
Consume iron rich foods with vitamin C rich foods to enhance absorption of both

Calcium & Vitamin D -
Known for bone health and strength. While your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium, you do not need to take vitamin D at the same time as a calcium supplement

Selenium & Vitamin E -
Like vitamin E, selenium acts as an antioxidant. In fact, selenium is even more effective as an antioxidant when combined with vitamin E. Selenium also helps regulate your thyroid and keeps your immune system functioning properly. •
Zinc & other Minerals (Magnesium) -
Zinc promotes the release of hormones such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), growth hormone, and testosterone, all of which play key roles in muscle health and athletic performance

Extra Tip
CLA (fatty acid) & L-Carnitine (amino acid) - CLA breaks down the fat, and the L Carnitine uses it as energy. Dosages can optimally be taken before cardio and before going to bed

***Workout Programming: "Stretch" Exercises before "Contraction" Exercises (advanced FST-7 concepts)***

*When programming your workout for the day (WOD), try to lead off your exercise routine or circuits with a good "stretch" movement exercises into a "contraction" movement afterwards. This is similar but a modification/advancement of Hany Rambod's popular FST-7 template for hypertrophy

*A "stretch" movement exercise in my opinion is one where you are allowing the resistance weight to actively pull against your muscle fibers, while controlling against the negative part of the movement, causing the full opening up the muscle bellies. This then allows for you to activate that muscle to be to pulled back through that full range of motion (ROM) into the concentric position. A "contraction" movement exercise would one where you don't go to a full elongation of the muscle bellies but the exercise's predominant focus is on the "squeeze"/concentric part of the movement. An example of this are pull ups versus push ups, even though these are predominantly targeting two different body parts, they explain the idea well.

*On your next circuit or pair of exercises 3 & 4, go with an even heavier stretch movement exercise into your strongest contraction exercise. Then follow the same pattern throughout your WOD and workout to workout for each body part also.
