Dawn above the bustling coastal town of Vernazza, Italy last month. There’s just something about the quiet stillness of mornings that keeps me coming back for more. This is the result of an eight image panorama shot on the Nikon D500 using a 35mm lens. Swipe to see the full image 👉🏼 #NikonUSA #Vernazza #CinqueTerre

It’s currently pouring down rain here in Oregon, and I can’t help but think back on sunny days in Northern British Columbia. Although this spot was so far north, it was surprisingly warm. I only had a chance to see the area for a day, but I hope to get back up here and visit again soon!

This photo is a still frame from a failed motion control time-lapse I shot on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. I began the time-lapse with the camera very low to the ground, focusing on the smaller, close-up details in the water and ended it with a much wider and higher perspective of the creek and surrounding forest. For some reason there was a glitch in the controller’s software and the timelapse only shot about 50 frames in the beginning... and a single image at the very end of the move. This was that single frame, so I decided to process it despite having an incomplete time-lapse sequence and I think it actually came out quite well. I would have loved to have seen the outcome of the time-lapse if everything HAD worked correctly, but I guess this served as a reminder to double check my equipment before using it in the field! Have a great week ahead y’all!

I’m back in Oregon after a few incredibly inspirational days with @NikonUSA at CES. I’m still humbled to have met and been around so many talented people. My presentation, as well as those from others during the event, can be viewed by clicking the link in my bio!

Excited to be presenting at CES this week! I’ll be talking about some of my favorite images in addition to sharing some tips and techniques about time-lapse photography. Tune in to Nikon’s livestream throughout the week to hear from a variety of amazing photographers - I’ll be live on Thursday and Friday. Link is in my bio!

This was the last image I took in Italy, just minutes before I had to catch my train to Milan and eventually my plane back to Seattle. The previous day in Vernazza was cloudy, so I had to take advantage of the sunshine while I could. I used a neutral density filter in order to smooth out the water and clouds, and a circular polarizer to reduce any reflections in the water and deepen the blue hues in the sky. A minute later I was gone, running down the path back towards the train station. Hard to believe I was here only a week ago, and I’m already trying to make plans to go back!

Venice’s Grand Canal wakes up with the sun (although the sun was nowhere to be seen on this foggy morning). It was fun waking up early and getting lost in the maze of twisting alleyways and canals that make up this city. I just went wherever my eye took me, eventually stopping to time-lapse this busy waterway filled with commercial boats, water taxis, and gondolas.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a fun New Year’s Eve last night - I know I did. Here are a few images and a timelapse showcasing @tmobile’s impressive light show / fire work show from the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. I’m excited to see what 2019 has in store and I’m wishing you all a great year ahead!

An alleyway opens up into Siena’s famous Piazza del Campo. Every summer, the entire town gathers in the center of the square for the Palio horse race, where 10 riders race bareback around the edges of the piazza. There isn’t quite as much excitement during this time of year, but I enjoyed exploring the sleepy town without the usual horde of summer tourists clogging the narrow streets.

Happy Holidays from Venice! I’ve taken a little hiatus on Instagram as I’ve been traveling throughout Europe these past weeks. This is the first time I’ll be away from home, family, and friends during this time of year, but I’m grateful and excited to be exploring some pretty incredible places! Enjoy this photo series of the Venice canals and have a fantastic holiday ✌🏼

Excited to be heading to Europe at the end of this week. I look forward to exploring new locations and countries, as well as reconnecting with some close family friends that I haven’t seen in over a decade. Also in need of some good inspiration, so let me know in the comments what your favorite locations around Europe are!

It’s approaching that time of year again in Big Sur, when hundreds gather to witness one of the most extraordinary natural light shows California has to offer. Big Sur has many incredible coastal attractions, but watching the setting winter sun stream in through Key Hole Rock is truly hard to beat!
