Not chic, not refined, but sometimes a bunch of good things in a bowl is exactly what you need. 🍜
The nicest Sundays follow Saturday nights when you're sent home with a box full of cake. (This is Flo Braker's Crystal Almond Pound Cake. There was also a stunner of a banana-peanut-butter-chocolate-sprinkles layered affair, but the boys are currently eating that.) Big thanks to you and R, @toronto2niagara.
Ready for the weekend. Thinking back to another market day, looking forward to tomorrow's .
In the @globestyle section today, lamb meatballs, laced with ras el hanout, topped with a confit garlic and green olive relish, and this crunchy, spicy seed and nut rubble. (Added bonus, it's the Canada's best dressed edition, with some truly dynamic, interesting folks from all over.)
In a bit of kismet, online today and in print tomorrow — my (slightly off book) take on a Québécois tourtière, with a mix of pork and veal bundled up in a butter pastry crust. There's a mustardy cognac cream sauce alongside, too. It's all part of Canada's 150th coverage in @globeandmail. Link in profile.
When you start the day discussing chocolate, there's a good chance you'll end the day with cookies. At least that's the case with me. (Recipe in my book, and online.)
Taking elevenses real seriously today. From the plate and working up, a really rough hummus, roasted beets, all the greens and the sprouts I could find, olive oil egg, goat feta, pickled chilies. Doesn't look like much but makes me inordinately happy.
Dreaming of rhubarb days. And! Also! I am nothing less than privileged to be a part of a local event next week — the Empty Bowls fundraiser in support of initiatives to address and eradicate poverty and its effects in Niagara. It is being hosted by Bethlehem Housing and Support Services on March 8, and is an evening of food by a supremely talented group of chefs, paired with ceramic work from local artisans. I hope you'll consider coming, and if you do, please say hello. Link for information and tickets in my profile.
Hip, hip snazzy slideshow function. So, my pal Nikole always makes my cookies look good (see aforementioned slideshow, these are her pictures). Truly chuffed she decided to feature the chocolate chip ones from my book on her site (recipe included). Visit @herriottgrace for the link.
